I disabled my skip shift this weekend. I should have done this a long time ago! I hate it when the skip shift gets me! :evilmad: It always gets me when I least expect it.

It's definitely $20 well spent isn't it? Now if there was a way to keep the stupid arrow in the info center from coming on....

hey pocket

the skip shift is when the light comes on it closes a shift from first to second...forces you to "skip shift" into fourth...but only at low rpms...so if you are driving conservitively and try to shift a low rpms the yellow light comes on and forces you to shift intpo fourth gear from first...this is dc's way to conserve on fuel!!

I just pulled the plug, covered it with a small ziplok, taped the end and ziptied it to the adjasent wires.

Just bought the eliminator from Casper Electronics. It's not listed as working on the Viper but I believe it will. From what I've been told this device is supposed to eliminate the light and the error code.

I took mine off because it never bothers me, I haven't missed it a bit and haven't had a forced 1 to 4 shift yet, you guys must really put around...

the one in the corvette is MUCH worse!!!

edit: my car had the skip shift when I bought it, I removed it for the hell of it and have never had a problem.

Well, sometimes, you will be behind someone and they will be going slow, around a corner or something like that. You will be in 1st and decide to shift to 2nd because that's what most people do. And SOMETIMES, the stinking skip shift will get ya. And you are like, "Crap! I really need to unplug that stinking plug!" Then you go home and ya do it. Then, you never have to worry about it again!

My 2001 has the same annoying feature, and per the manual, it's active something like "below 1/4 throttle and between 12 and 20 MPH" or something along those lines. I disabled mine after the first time it locked me out of 2nd gear. I actually said to my car, "Car, I'm driving here, not you. If I call for 2nd gear, I damn well better get 2nd gear. Next time, I won't be so forgiving." There was no next time.

I would bet it's a lot more noticeable with lower gears (changing from 3.07 to something lower) because it has never affected me. If I see the light I either speed up or don't shift.

mine seems to only activate at really low speeds, like below 10mph, its really slow, that's why I can't understand why it bugs people...

I bought mine from eBay. Was about 20 bucks. It plugs inline to the trans. Jack up car and 2 minutes` done. The light still comes on and keeps the computor from setting a check e engine light from what I understand. But never just disconnected and taped either. On 96 and newer OBD2 may set a light.

Nope, if you install the harness like you did, no light on OBD-II cars.

Don't spend $20 on a skip shift eliminator, all you really need is a 2K ohm half-watt resistor from Radio Shack. 10¢ last time I looked.

You may not want to mess with it if your car is under warranty, they MIGHT try to say you have modified the drive train. Doesn't take much to try to void a claim. Quit shifting at such low RPM's girlie men.

The nice part about the eliminator is that it comes with the nice rubber-sealed plug for the actual solenoid and also for the harness itself. You don't have to worry about water/dirt/whatever getting into the connectors via a hole in a plastic bag, etc. It's only $20. As far as mods go, that ain't too shabby. ;)

Mine does not do that. It allows me to shift right into 2nd, even when the light does come on. I guess the orig owner did away with it because that is ********!

It must be great to always get to pick what RPM to shift at. When I'm in traffic, or just taking it easy, the skip shift shows its ugly face. I disabled it, and no more problem.

I can drive my car like Sam Hornish, but not every time I drive it. So, for everyone who does not need the disable, I envy you. For the real world, disable it, and you will be free. Cost me about 20 cents, and the time to jack up the car.
