OK,
So I just installed new smooth tubes and filters on my '94. Am I going to get any "Check Engine" lights or whatever from this, or is this as easy as it seemed and no problems will be encountered. The whole thing took less than an hour, and it was very easy to do. the stock air filters have a huge piece of sponge attached to them which makes the filters very thick. I guess that foam is there to quiet the "Giant sucking sound" that Ross Perrot was so fond of saying? Looks like it puts a huge restriction to the breathing ability of the Viper. Any comments would certainly be appreciated.

It didn't set any codes on my 97 and I haven't heard anyone else say anything about it. Just enjoy the new sounds and 10 odd horsepower.

No problems at all when I replaced my filters and tubes. Pretty decent bang for the buck

Just got my smooth tubes from the very generous Layne & Liem, thank you very much!! My question, is there a preferred clamp to use? It doesn't look like the stock clamps are reusable. Thanks

You're right, I don't think the stock clamps are re-usable. I went to a local auto parts store and got the "worm-gear" clamps. They were a bit long, (and with me being "anal")I trimmed the length, sanded the edges round with a Dremel, and installed them. The ACR uses the same type of clamps. Most are stainless steel so even after being trimmed they won't rust. Best part...less than a buck a piece! I used these with the hoses I made, and they look stock.

Thanks for the response Matt. I had considered the hose clamp option (worm gear) but also wondered if there was anything that might look a bit more "classy".

I'm sure Frank would blast me for not wanting to get the least expensive option, and I may end up going that way. But lots of people love to look at the V-10, and I don't want any distractions. I guess I must be one of those arrogant rich guys (not) that doesn't mind spending extra $$ on my prized possession (not that you couldn't/wouldn't also Matt!

The clamps I got with my tubes were just the right length so as not to Hang over too much once tightened down, and they are the worm gear type and stainless steel. You can't use the original ones over, they are riveted to the factory tube assembly (wouldn't want to pop them off anyway). I'm going to keep the whole assembly so that if I want it to go back totally to stock I can so so fairly quickly. Pulling off the factory tube assembly and resonator tubes, etc, makes getting at the front of the engine a lot easier to do.
