SNAKE IN THE GRASS - CAUTION

The MCVO had a great outing on Saturday to the Mopars at the Red Barns event/museum near Kalamzaoo MI. There were eleven of us cruising the back roads. I took a corner faster than I should have and hit some gravel. Next thing I know I am plowing through high weeds and grass. Aside from a bruised ego, the car faired well despite the cloud of dust, weeds, grass and whatever else I plowed up. The MCVO members were right there to assist and before long we were back on the road. Just when you think you know how far to push it, you get snake bitten! Have fun with your cars, but take it easy on the corners.

That was amazing. I am going into the corner and out of the corner of my eye I see a red RT/10 driving through the cornfield. Amazingly it cleaned up so well it was the shiniest Viper at the event.

You failed to mention the fairly steep bank that could have resulted in a tumble. Great driving (after the road exit) or luck. Who cares which as you came out well.

A couple of pics. Fiorst one is the line-up immediately after the "experience." The second is after we arrived and the car was cleaned.

It was a great event! MOPARS at the Red Barns at the Gilmore Auto Museum in Hickory Corners, MI.

First, we gathered near Ann Arbor. Then we took a "spirited" drive across a back road route suppied by MCVO member Terry Weaver. It was very scenic and fun to drive.

Often we "shared" the road with bicyclists.

We went around one 90 degree corner posted for 25 mph at about double the posted speed. All of us that is, except Ed, who wanted to do a closer inspection of the mailbox on the corner. Ron's right, he did some mighty impressive handling in that field to keep her upright. Here's the group helping him get the debris out . . .

After we got things shined up again, we all made it to the car show.

It was a respectable showing of Vipers. Eleven in our group and another three that came separately.

There were all sorts of MOPARS at the show. Someone said over 800 cars.

The cars normally displayed at the museum were impressive also. It's truly a world class exhibition of cars (gilmorecarmuseum.org) that you should see if you're ever in that part of the country.

It's a day that we'll all remember - especially Ed! :2tu:

Sorry to get into this thread so late, but as a former member of MCVO, I wanted to say you guys finally made it to the Red Barns! Isn't it a great place for a car show? There is so much to see and do there, I met Sharon there last year and really miss this show, having moved to Ocala Florida now. Still have the Viper and drive it around, but I have not been able to find many curvy back country roads like the ones that wind through the farmland in Western Michigan. I had been trying to get the Viper Clubs in the area to go to this show for years now, and I am so glad that the MCVO finally decided to make it this year. My good friend from Hastings, MI, Len Standler, won best of show there this summer with his red '67 Cuda. I would like to suggest that the Indiana/KY club and the Illinois Viper Club also make an effort to attend this great Mopar show. If enough Vipers show up, you guys should have your own show inside of a show for a few of your own trophies or awards!
We do love crusin around the beautiful horse farms here in Marion County, the countryside is really pretty, but the Red Barns is a special place and the Elvis Memorial show is coming up as well as a muscle car show there, and they have cruise ins every Wednesday night until the museum closes in late October.
Have fun and keep your snakes out of the grass!
Roland
