and that's before tt&l

rule 4. Federal law requires the deposit of 28% of such value to be applied toward the winner's tax liability before the prize can be released. Approximate retail value $120,000.

So basically one wins 2/3 of a viper and the feds win the other 1/3. Does it ever stop.

You'd pay much more taxes in winning a million dollar lotto, but I'd still accept a winning ticket.

Here 's one for you. How about the city taking your land 2 weeks before I had it sold and paying you half of what you had it sold for. So my neighbor in back of me could have my corner. Nice to have friends in city. EMINENT DOMAIN it's legal. 3 1/2 years later still waiting.

That is criminal. I don't care what the Supreme Court says.

What are you doing about it?

I went thru a eminent domain case in chicago on a multi-million dollar piece of property.
The city of chicago wanted to give us the price we paid for the investment 25 years prior.
total joke and nearly gave my father a heart attack!
Here's the deal, by law eminent D case's must give "fair market value" this means as the highest and best use value of a property. If you had it under contract or a letter of intent with a purchase price they should give you that price. It might mean a lengthy court battle.
Ours took almost 4 years and a couple hundred thousand in lawyers fees' but in the end it was worth it because we got MUCH more money than we even thought we would from the jury! We did hire the best attny, we could find (in this field) in cook county though.
is your case still pending 3 1/2 years later????

We are lucky in Quebec we don't pay taxes on lottery items ....

However if we win a car in the States we will have to pay: US Federal Revenu Tax, Canadian Federal Tax, All sort of Federal Environmental taxes and Quebec Sales Tax. Who does better :)

At VOI 9, the wife of one our members won $12000 in Vegas. She left $6000 in the Casino. She is still batteling with the IRS to get her money back ...:)

I'm pretty sure there was another thread that said that the value of the current raffle car is only $90000-$100000 and that $120k figure was a carryover from the last raffle car.....so I think the figure is actually around $25-$26k....which I would gladly finance with my credit union and happily make the payments on!! Hey for $25k nowadays, you get not a whole lot of car.....but $25k for a 2nd Viper in the driveway.....that's a DEAL!

Regards,
Aaron

Put it this way, you pay $33,000 for a 90,000 car. Sounds like a good deal to me. Send me the winning ticket please.

It would be the first time that the purchase of a car would be an actual investment, at least to me.

Hey not to make anyone feel stupid here.... but You already paid a similar amount on the VIPER you drive now.... No sence in getting pissed about it. If you paid 50K on your nice used or 90K for your new GenIII you had to pay "Uncle **** MY D*CK SAM) in the neighborhood of 18% to 30% or more to have had enough after tax money to buy it. So in the rare case that I might win the raffel I will pay the thieving government there dues and enjoy breaking every speed limit they post with it ;)

Eminent Domain is one of those tricky "dumb" laws. Does not make sense for the owners.

Can it happen two times in a row in the Kansas City region?Oh Man it would feel good slipping into that car.I think I would take a week off and drive 12 hours a day and spend the rest of the time looking at it.

How about receiving an annuity life insurance of 120k, losing 60k in inheritance tax, then losing another 32k of it for income tax, leaving me with 28k out of the 120k I was supposed to get? Keep this in mind next time you are contemplating voting for a democrat.

Got to love the government. I do not know where I would come up with $35K on the spot like that but I would try my best to find it if I won so I would not have to sell the car or my current Viper.

You'd find lots of cosigners and banks that will do this one.:headbang:

OK so let's say you win and pay whatever.
Now, would you pay to have it shipped or pick it up from the factory and drive it home?

Fly to Detroit, pick up the car, take it to get the clear bra on the nose, hood, tire well areas and rear, stay in a hotel for the night, and then drive it home with a friend. Would be a BLAST!!!!
