I started lurking in 2000 and joined in 2004 when I bought my first GTS. I'm not an original, but a decent interpretation of the real thing. Many of the "original" members can be found on the Alley as I'm sure you are aware.

I've been here since 2000-2001 w/ a few posts. Learned a great deal from the gurus like Jon B, Tom S., Bill P., Luc, etc.
Where is Serious Eric? He has been MIA for awhile now.
For me the best times were when Serious Eric and Kid96GTS, Kenny, etc were pushing the limits w/ smack downs and the threats of bannings were flying. Those were the days.

Eric was banned - along with several of the major content providers. A bunch of those people started their own website called ViperAlley.com, which thrived until it was overrun with idiots - and crazy ******* that just can't turn it off. VA recently sold to some kanuks and there is currently an exodus afoot.

The board appeared in 2 previous forms prior to Y2K. First was hosted under the Car & Driver Mag's AOL forum in 1996. In '97 after VOI 4, the VCA voted to move ops to a dedicated forum that preceded this one. There are probably about ten of us who have been there from the beginning of it all.

The reason that so many show a join date of October 2000 is that the forums were converted to a new platform (UBB I think) and that is when they were "open" to the rest of the membership. There are a handful of people that show a slightly earlier join date (me included) as we were helping Jay "test" it out and work out any bugs for a few months.

That said, maybe if I get time I will go back and edit the "join dates" for those in the archives that I can associate with actual names (before we had clever ID's like "Y2K5SRT"). Mind you, this is with the UBB boards which go back to December of 1997. I'll start with Jon B, who first posted on them December 8, 1997 at 11:51 AM - message #28...

I don't post much as I am more interested in open track performance/racing and starting 2003 Dodge refused to fix the oiling defect so I moved on. Looks like 2008 finally has a fix and I may consider the new car.

In the interim I moved to Lotus and Porsche, among other things.

PS I bet I go back to 1997 or so, as I joined VCA in 1994 and attended VOI 1
