I'd say it might be a little low. It's not way out of line.

I've been seeing more and more of these later model cars selling for lower than folks would think.

That's why I almost laugh when I see someone trying sell a nice gen1 for over $40k. There was one in the Washington Post classified over the weekend. He asked $42k. Those days are gone.

A local high end used car dealer in my area, The Toy Barn, has a 94 with 3,900 miles listed our paper. I called out of curiosity. Asking $43,900. I'll bet they get $40k or more. This place has late model BMW, MB, Ferrari, A. NSX, etc. Someone that doesn't know better or doesn't care will see it right in front on a display hill and just buy it. Not everyone looks for cars on Ebay. There are a lot of people that are very busy in their daily lives and an impulse purchase of $40k for an "exotic" car isn't that big of a deal. Of course, it is infinitely easier for a dealer to get a good price than an individual.

He has his car listed here on the VCA too. He posted it for sale at the beginning of the year. I actually enquired about it but he wasn't exactly courteous in my emails so oh well. He used it as an advertising piece for his tax business or something like that and has only owned it for a few months. I'm pretty sure this same car sold on ebay, to him most likely, in the Fall for 49k.

Yup...most nice Gen I's I see these days seem to be 'selling' at between $32-$34K....and that often is with the hardtops thrown in...

The market, IMHO, has dropped for most ALL exotic cars....

the market is on the floor for car sales, so if you need the cash or want to move it , you have to drop the price ,
and as the other gentlemen said paying more for a viper than what is really worth, those days are over .
i been following sales on ebay for the last month sense i'm in market for a viper, and this is what i seen,
2000 ACR 44k to 46k.
2001 gts 45k to 50k tops.
1999 gts high 30's to low 40's.
1998 gts mid 30's to 40k.
and the new SRT-10 2003's under 70k not a peny more
some have sold some have not met reserve, but you get the idea on what people are willing to pay.

If they don't meet reserve, they don't sell. You can't say "This is what they sell for," when they don't meet reserve.

As much as I love eBay, it doesn't depict the automotive market truly. You're buying a car sight unseen over the internet -- makes a huge difference.

What a suprise, I notice you don't own a Viper...

On the interior shot the passenger side air bag cover looks totally discolored-

Possibly a mismatched piece after an accident??

Everybody seems to think that "their" car is worth more than it really is, this is not exclusive to Viper owners either.

The prices are correct thats why i said from 35to40 from 40to45 from 45to50.
And thats why i also said not all of them met the reserve.
But the high-bidders prices reflect what people are willing to pay for them.
i have all the links if you want them

So I wonder why a Vette owner is tracking Viper prices then posting on OUR board what they are worth?

I do not agree with your numbers; go back home troll

EDIT:
Oh-I see now, should have checked before-this is the same guy that only likes how a Viper looks

"i test drove one yesterday 2001 gts ACR for the first time and i was very disappointed. i didn't enjoy driving the car at all except for the attention it gets. the only thing it has over the vette is the looks the vette wins everything alls !sorry! "

Guess the Vette board must be as boring as the car is so he has to come over here for excitement.

I'll say it again GO BACK HOME TROLL!

You are wrong by thinking that the high bid on a reserve auction is what a buyer is willing to pay for the item. Most bidders stay away from reserve auctions because they are less likely to meet a higher reserve. Because these bidders are unmotivated in bidding on these auctions, the final bid prices most likely do not reflect the current market.

I only consider a true final price to be an auction in which either there is a final bid on an item without a reserve, or an auction that the reserve has been met by a bidder.

Any other auctions which have no bids or the reserve has not been met, are considered by me (and many, many others) to be untrue market prices.

enjoy
remember the last bid amount represents what people are willing to pay for them,
even if reserve was not met,so either they sell it low, or dont sell it at all, some want to sell so they drop the price.

I just added a second Viper to my garage last week. I was surprised at the current market.

1999 RT-10, one owner, here local, I knew the car from day one, 14k miles, corsa 3"cat backs - new never used, full MGW inside goodies - new never used, hard and soft tops, $43K even.

I felt like I got a VERY reasonable deal. I don't think I stole the car, but I don't feel like I over paid either.

I feel like the car market is soft right now, IMO.

I've got a guy here in St. Louis who has a 98 GTS with 34K miles and will let it go at $39K if anyone is interested.
Car looks and runs like new.

This guy must be crazy as well. A little bird told me the reserve is set at $40k. Oh wait, that is me and yes the reserve is set at $40k. I was thinking that the reserve was set below what the market is going to bring. Just my opinion. It is one of the cheaper Gen II's on Autotrader and some of the other forums that I look at.

cool , just the other day, they where telling me girls dont drive vipers i just read your item description
when i get mines i will let my wife drive mines, its just a car no big deal they come and go just like girls, i guess you have to be down to earth and not let $$$$ fill your head...

Ok, perhaps some of us here need a refresher on how Ebay works. Your bid will only be bumped up just above the next highest bidder. So, if I'm willing to pay $100,000 for a high miles 93 RT (I'm not BTW) but the next highest bid is only $31k, my bid will only be bumped up to just over $31k EVEN IF I'M WILL TO PAY SUBSTANTIALLY MORE. If the sellers reserve was above this level it would appear the market is around $31k. This can obviously be false. I bought my car on Ebay in early April. The next highest bid was from a dealer. My final high bid was several thousand less than what I was actually willing to pay and less than what I had entered on Ebay. I was the high bid but the reserve was not met. The seller and I worked out a deal after the auction that we both were happy with. If someone was only watching the PUBLIC portion of Ebay, they just got a false insight into "the market".

Badvenm, you did steal that car!! :2tu:

Bob, it right-on with the Ebay reserve info. I have bought 2 cars through Ebay, and I spoke directly with the seller in both cares and negotiated that way also.

Yeah prices are A LOT cheeper but we all know this. This is a debate/discussion that is always on this site. I got my car at a excellent deal but compared to now, I think I could have gotten it A LOT lower. It is just something that happens. Dealers have asked if I was interested in 2004 SRT-10's new for between $70K and $75K. GOOD DEALS ARE OUT THERE!

Very good point. HKS has no idea what he's talking about. For instance, the first link above in your post for the Viper on eBay. Final price was $35k with the reserve not yet met. This does not mean that this car will go for $35k when their is no reserve. If fact, I can bet that the price of that particular car would be a good amount higher then the $35k it was bid up to. I have been selling items on eBay since 1998 (with over 1400+ feedback) and from my personal experience, if you place a reserve on an item, the interest of bidding is diminished. I guess there is no point in telling you this for the 3rd time, seems you're a bit hardheaded when it comes to the obvious.

I agree from experience from eBay. Been on since 1999 and the same is true. Reserves are like a poison when it comes to listing, It really stinks sometimes.

I don't understand why ebay has hidden reserve prices.
I know all about ebay and how the reserve works. I just don't see why the seller can't just post a minimum price.

That way everyone would know if it was worth bidding. Most people have an idea how much they will pay for something. If there is a hidden reserve it only wastes everyone's time.

As long as the "reserve not met" sign is on, everyone has wasted their time, buyer and seller.

The reserve is a minimum price. Why hide it?
