i have all jl audio, not the best mids and highs on the market, but i wanted to go ALL JL. i also did my own custom enclosure for a JL10W3 in the floor board. all powered by a JL 300/4 amp. for a head unit i went with a alpine IVAD-900 dvd/tuner/cd/nav system.

Re: Sound systems in RT/10\'s ??

I just pieced one together but have not installed it. I have a Wicked Cas Box being fabricated as close to the stock one as possible to incorporate a 10" sub. Nakamichi Amp to power everthing up front, a rockford 300W amp for the sub and a sony XEC electronic crossover to tie everything in. I have not chose the head unit Yet. Ray at C.A.R.S. (custom alarm radio and sunroof) will be install shop. It will be going in when the sub box comes in...

The wicked Cas 10" sub box just came in, I had them build it as close to stock as possible so it looks just like the stock console with a speaker out the center minus the glove box. I would post pictures of it here but I can't/don't know how?

Going to make an appointment to build the system now. Will start a whole thread when its completed.

Re: Sound systems in RT/10\'s ??

I have 2 pairs of infinity perfect 6.1's components in the each door, 2 focal 6 1/2" subs, 1 4 channel infinity reference amp for the doors and 1 infinity reference amp for the subs.

As for the show piece I have both amps mounted in the bottom of the trunk in a custom made bed. Over the amps is a thin piece of wood covered with your typical trunk carpet with plexi glass cutouts over each amp.

I would love to get some ideas on how to upgrade the subwoofers. A 10" would be a nice addition, but I dont see much room. I even tried the Kenwood woox and clarion self powered sub, neither one did it for me. Any ideas? Pictures?

Need4speed do you have any photos yet?

I just don't get it. If you have gen1 with side exhaust how do you hear any music? It is loud enough with just the exhaust sound then add a stereo system that you have to turn up pretty loud just to hear! Hearing aid companies are going to love you guys in a couple of years.(or sooner) Whenever I drive on the interstate I put ear plugs in because it is to loud for me. Sometimes I will put them in while driving around town as well. I listened to loud music way to much and went to to many concerts when I was a little younger. I just can't understand how you guys can hear the music.

What??? I can't hear you. Thank God I still have my sight. :)

To be honest I really dont listen to my stereo on the freeway. You're right about the exhaust. Cruising through town or spending time in the garage clearning her up is when I listen to the music. A good sound system is still a must if you have a Viper. I would be embarassed to run a kraco deck with 2 way paper speakers. It just wouldnt be right.

AJT and others - I would be interested to hear how you routed the wiring to your replacement trunk amps. I was thinking about upgrading the amp and speakers but thought it might be easier to locate the replacement amp under the passenger seat to avoid having to run new wiring through to the trunk (which I hear can be a real killer).

Thanks!

10" sub console picts. (hope they show up) I will post pictures of the entire system once its installed in the car. I will also try to give a detialed explanation on overall sound quality and bass improvement. Right now my system is stock and I must say, sounds pretty awful. I rather listen to the motor and exhaust.I am hoping to get down to around 45hrz with the sub box it so its packed with stuffing (in picture 2). It looks pretty close to stock just sticks out a little further. I think there is still room for roll bars etc for those interested to know. Box is made of fiberglass and is cast off of a regular RT/10 console and modified to take a 10" sub. Wicked Cas can also modify the box to your specifications.

Gen II, straight pipes & blower. With the exhaust coming out the rear you don't hear it too much unless your getting on it.

I do not think it would be a good idea to put the amp under the seat, too much heat. The amp would probably shut down from overheating & pass. a$$ would be warm.

Wiring was done at stereo shop, not sure how they ran it.

Center console speaker- I am no expert, but I have always been told a sub needs someting to bounce against, in the center there is nothing to bounce off of with the top off. In the floor board I get great bass.

Re: Sound systems in RT/10\'s ??

In the console setup the sub is reverse mounted and fired down towards the trunk so right there its bouncing off the back. The entire enclosure is sealed, I had them put the speaker grill on the other end just because it looks closer to the stock piece, but it is not functional. It should produce good base as it has some volume (space) inside the casing. Guess I am the guinnie pig in this experiment.

Ray at C.A.R.S. Set me up for a Teusday install. Car will be there for about 1-2 days as we are running new cabling. Right now trying to decide which head unit to go with. Either Eclipse or Clarion with built in electronic crossover so I might not need the XEC1000. Also whether to use canton or polk speakers. So by this time next week I should have the car back...

I'm curious about your enclosure; I was planning something similar for mine, but with dual 8"'s (I have some Sparco's which have wider shoulder bolsters). You mention that the sub enclosure is sealed. Does it fire directly against the rear firewall? Is it sealed to the rear firewall as well, or is there an airgap between the enclosure and the firewall?

Thanks!

VIPER RICH, damn that looks good. How much did you spend on a setup like that anyway?

Components are Alpine – Alpine IVA-D901 multimedia station $1600. Alpine NVE-852A Navigation $1300. Alpine DHA-S680E DVD/CD 6 changer $1400. JL Audio amp $ don’t know – receipts are back in Michigan had the stereo place meet me at Autoform and had them do it there with Autoform supervising the install. I’d say probably around $6000 when all said and done.

Re: Sound systems in RT/10\'s ??

The enclosure has some space before it reaches the back wall, but not a ton, its a couple of inches I believe. The plus side is that it has enough space behind it (volume) and its stuffed with packing. I am not sure how this will sound since its facing the back wall (bass tends to sound a litle muddy muffled) but there is hopefully enough space between both and it is on a slightly different angle from the wall. It should sound better than stock or an 8"..

Re: Sound systems in RT/10\'s ??

Thanks for the info. I've been told that bass enclosures should still sound good even when reverse mounted like that, but logically, it seems that the response should be muffled when it is fully enclosed like that. I'd love to hear your opinion of the setup once it's all together!

Well, with stock exhaust, I could hear the stereo on my '95 just fine. Not everyone has opted for a louder exhaust.
