Does anyone have a good source for the Castrol Syntec 75-90 gear oil. Has anyone used the Royal Purple or Redline gear oil in their T56.

I am using Amsoil Series 2000 gear lube since early last summer. I know it's unscientific, but since changing from the Castrol, I could swear my temp gauge is running a little cooler. Instead of being at the third bar(or a little higher), I am consistently running between the second and third bar. Another indication of less heat is the short throw MGW shifter I have, which previously would get to hot to touch the metal top after hard running and/or a hot day. I have yet to see it get that hot. I ran the Castrol for 2 complete summers and over 16,000 miles.

You want Syntorq, not Syntec. Castrol 800 number tech support said not to use Syntec in a T-56. Standard Transmission in TX (817 625 7109) buys in bulk, sells in plain milk-gallon container gallons for $54 (+$13 shipping.) Can also check site sponsors.

I tried redline fluids on our race team and lost transmissions, rearends, and power steering pumps. I will never use Redline products again.

Why not just run the best known lube out there, Amsoil Series 2000 75W-90. They surpass all other gear lubes in overall specs, especially the non synthetic lubes. There is one test in perticular that runs for 250 hours at a certain temp. Mobil gear lube was tested against it and failed miserably. I don't know about Castrol syntorque, but I do think it's not a bad oil, just not as good as Ams. I would like to get my hands on some really good spec. comparisions and then have someone interprept them. Viper owners would want the oil that held up best in extreme pressure and that would resist thermal breakdown, as the Viper diff. tends to get really heated up when running hard. As far as the specs. I'm going to check in to things like this in the near future. The biggest gear and axle co. in Fort Worth will void the warranty on any rear end they rebuild, if synthetic lube is not put in them, regardless of what the owner customer thinks. When they leave his plant they have Amsoil Syn. in all of them. He said it cut his return rate down to nearly zero. This co. has been around a long time. It was many years before they found out what worked best.

While there may be better and really better products out there, you will have a hard time figuring it out. The standard industry tests for lubricants are designed to be extremely severe so they 1) cover all possible consumer uses and 2) are conducted in a short period. Therefore, they are pass/fail, even if the final performance is given as a number. Technical societies and the court system have time and time again determined that if a "9.0" is a passing score, then a "9.7 is not better than a "9.2" result. Your best bet is to look for additional performance claims (for instance, compare a diesel oil with API SG/SH/SJ/CI-4/CH-4/CG-4/CF to a passenger car oil API SJ) to make your selection.

The Mopar trans fluid is a rebrand of the Castrol Syntorq.

I went to my local Dodge dealer (has a viper tech) and asked for 5 quarts of the viper trans fluid. He brought out Dextron III. The Mopar # for the Castrol Syntorque LT is 4874459.

On another note, one of the best kept secret in the viper community is John Dinoto of Performance Parts (248 232 1110). John probably repairs more viper transmissions than anyone else. He is also the dealers best kept secret. He not only repairs, he also modified them for racing. Anyone serious about racing should have him replace the the aluminum forks with the steel forks. Another modification that can keep you on the track is the replacement of the factory fork pads with the GTSR type pads.

Anyone in the midwest sell the Castrol trans fluid by the gallon?

Dextron III is an AFT, not a gear oil  I'm putting Amsoil 75W-90 in my tranny and 75W-140 in the rear end :D

Dexron III is the original spec. A TSB came out later for a slightly heavier replacement oil to eliminate the NGR that all the candyasses were ******** about.
