After my serpentine belt broke a rib on the track, it was time for a new hood pad. Sneaky Pete just didn't have a smirk on his face anymore.

Soooo I just wanted to show some appreciation to these two, they offered me some sound advice to the hood pad painting. After some good advice it turned out great. The first picture was a quick over night trial run on seeing how taping off would work out etc, old hood pad, don't mind Pete's missing mouth. With Dave's advice of really matting up the black paint I got the tape to stick just fine and the lines look pretty good. LifeIsGood also gave me some great techniques to getting it to lay nice. Overall I am very happy with the end result. Enjoy.

That looks...perfect! It seems to really pop on the hood pad. Nice job. Dave/LIG are good people. Did you ever figure out how to mount your catch cans?

The catch cans are mounted on the fender wells. One right next to the windshield washer fluid resevoir and the other on the exact opposite side. There is a lot of room there because the hood bows out. Worked out well.

The 2 clips that hold the grounding strap need to be replaced as well and can be bought at any auto parts store.

I used all painters tape in different thickness to get the edge and curves. Outline the silhouette in painters tape, but don't cross over the edge, outline the whole thing. Tape the rest of the hood pad off and lay a bunch of layers of rustoleum stain finish universal paint down till it is shiny. This will allow the painters tape to stick better. Then just tape off and pick a color of your choice. I used universal canary yellow from LifeIsGood's post. Helped a lot.

The first pad has thinner painted section because the overspray was so bad that I had to outline it with a paint marker. Looks decent but I would not put it on my car. The heavy black coating really helped.

They are still available. List price is 174 and I paid 154 after taxes, not sure why it was cheaper. Ordered from the dealer.

I have de-chromed and most importantly de-red'd my vehicle. No extra bling or performance loss for me
