for the most widespread distribution. Looks like our SRT-4 brethren need some assistance:

Here is a full post of the article:

Sorted Performance team owner Hal Brown reported to SPEEDtv.com that the team's transporter, loaded with both Dodge SRT-4 SPEED TC cars and all racing equipment, was stolen this Thursday from the greater Detroit area. The truck was later recovered, but the two-car trailer was found emptied of the cars and racing equipment. The thieves then set the trailer ablaze and it burned to the ground before it was discovered.

Leading Rookie of the Year candidate and Sorted driver now without a car to campaign, Stan Wilson, reports "Financially this is devastating to our little race team because insurance doesn't pay for man hours, blood, sweat, and tears. We will make every effort to go on, however!" The team, preparing for the next round at Toronto in two weeks, is now forced to abandon its participation in the series until vehicle recovery or new cars can be sourced.

Full-blooded race cars like these are hard to sell complete, so the thieves will likely part them out and sell the components individually. That could be their downfall. A note from Wilson about some of the components to be on the lookout for. "Other parts that are very specific to these cars are the aluminum 3R suspension pieces, World Challenge only stamped on the engine controllers, Ron Davis custom oil cooler/radiators, exhaust depot beast intercoolers, Stoptech front big brakes...one set of calipers were prototypes and were gold without Stoptech logos, sealed engines from Dodge..."

Should either chassis be attempted to be sold, there are chassis markings to look for, provided they haven't been removed or obscured. "VIN numbers for stolen Dodge SRT-4's: Black #92 Car: 1B3ES66S64D595917, Silver #4 Car: 1B3ES66S44D561328.

In typical World Challenge fashion, Brown and Wilson's fellow competitors have stepped up to offer assistance with some meaningful contributions. 3R's Bob Raub has volunteered a trailer for the team, and other competitors have started to offer other racing and pit equipment needed to run SPEED TC cars; the biggest hurdle will be filling the trailer with two new cars should their black and silver SRT-4's fail to reappear.

If you have any insights to this ridiculous event, or the subsequent attempted sales of the stolen goods, please contact Sheriff's Deputy Mike Preadmore with the Monroe Co. Sheriff's Dept. His office number is 734-240-7719. The case number is 21217-07.

It ceases to amaze me the nerve some people have. It's one thing stealing a "single" car but stealing a TRANSPORTER with 2 cars is something else. Much less hauling it off without being noticed!! There's some people that will do anything.... Thats why I'm careful with roadrage!!

The FBI ought to monitor appropriate websites, looking for spare parts offers, i.e., Srt Forums, Neon Forums, etc.

Their "Carnivore" system should show something soon.

No gps tracking device installed? Kinda foolish.

Bandit,

It's remarks like these that blame the victim. Even if they had GPS in the truck, the theft probably took place during the early am hours when all were sleeping.

Seriously tho, Should a race car have to HAVE a LoJack??

Jay K.

ps. That said, I'd decapitate the thieves once they were caught to further discourage theft.

While I understand the viewpoint of not wanting to blame the victims, I know that if I had that much money ******* into a trailer, cars and equipment, all stored inside the trailer that is easily portable and relatively easy to steal if unattended, you bet your ass I would have a gps tracking device hidden in the trailer at least. Chances are the thieves probably stopped by some sort of "hideout", unloaded the cars and then took the trailer and dumped it, the gps tracking services would have a history of where the trailer went and this whole situation could have been over in a matter of hours. As sad as this story is, not taking the proper steps to protect an investment that equates to tens of thousands of dollars in equipment just doesn't make sense to me.

If there was a 1:1 tax write off for anti-theft devices honest citizens are pretty much required to have because of a failed justice system then I'm betting most folks would have one.

These thieves will likely export all the stolen merchandise...if they're professionals. This story is unbelievably sad. :(
