All I can say here is that the Viper is at a disadvantage because the Skyline
is listed as the price was in JAPAN for that year. They did not take into account the conversion price to make it road worthy for US EPA/DOT as they considered this to be a modification like a supercharger or a built motor.
The other thing that really gave me a problem was the Ultima GTR kit car......
We all know that the Ultimas are $89,000.00 for the rolling chassis plus motor and transmission (I think they use some Porsche gearbox).
==> The owner of the GTR, convinced the magazine he bought all the parts for 25K and fabricated the rest himself. This could or could not be the case; it is not for me to say and is out of my control.
The one thing I had a hard time believing was that he got this 6-liter(Bored and stroked version of the 5-liter BMW V-12) BMW V-12 motor from a junk yard for $500.00
This is all fine and dandy as far as I am concerned. It is what it is.
For the second day, all the tests where the Viper would hand just about any street car on the planet their ass; were the skidpad, road course, 1/4 mile, 0-60, 60-0, and Gross display of HP......
I was in 3rd place overall and seemed to be in really good placement to have a real shot to win the whole thing since I was so close after many events that did not favor the Viper.
In the breakfeast room, the Skyline guy, Nick Wong, was politicing to get a few more points in the car show because he believed he should not have lost to the Viper by as much.
I guess they found an addition error that netted him 7 more points in the car show. He was very happy to say the least.==> I was amused Nick was so worried about the Viper since the Skyline is such a godly car in the import circles!
Back to the Ultima.....
At the beginning of the day, I had 43 points in the Base price portion of the competition as the second most expensive car(the Viper was listed as $66,000.00) with the Ultima listed as $91,000.00. The Ultima had only 10 points being the most expensive.
Well once they changed the price of the Ultima to $30,000.00, I now became the most expensive car and dropped to 10 points for the base price portion.
More importantly for the Ultima guy, he now had some 80 points out of 100 for having one of the less expensive cars in the competition.
So what this meant for me was 33 less overall points for the competition while at the same time, the Ultima gained 70 points on me and was able to get the 4th.
I believe he beat me by less that 100 points in the overall standings.
