Good question, and one everyone wants to know, but so far there is not a replacement filter available. I am sure it will be a popular item when they
get on the market.

I plan on going to the speed shop today to find one that fits. They have hundreds in stock. I will try to post some pics and part #'s if I found a correct fit.

I checked at a local shop yesterday and they did not have any listed in their computer system.

Tony, there is an easier way - just measure the dimensions and then call K&N and others. I think they are oval, though, which may require custom tooling to fit just right. I expect the aftermarket to jump righ into this in the near future. I also wonder how much power it will really make.

Stock is fine for me right now

Hey guys, I found a K&N filter that is a perfect replacment for the stock paper filters. K&N RC-5000 is the part #. I will post some pics on Friday. We also removed the rain baffle. The car sound much better to. To bad it is raining or we could do a test drive.

Terrific info, thanks Tony. Now all we need is a cheap airbox tube replacement, and a few dyno runs, and ...

hmmm

I think I just signed myself up again!

The car sounds just like the GTS when you install smooth tubes and filters. The filters fit perfectly in the air box. GET RIDE OF THE RAIN BAFFLE!! 2 screws and it comes right out. You will get a direct view into the scoop revealing the K&N's. With the baffle removed the car has the famillar hiss sound. I will post some nice pictures of the K&N on one side and, the stock filter on the other. The K&N's look smaller but they really are not. The stock filters look like they have a larger surface area but the rubber ends and metal screen take up more than you think. Total cost $98, Total time 15 min. !!!!

Are you sure there is enough surface on the filters to do their required job?

Any measured performance gain versus stock? The stock filters look like they have lots of surface area.

Hey, thanks for the great pics.
Good point brought up though. There IS a lot less surface area on the K&N filters. Might that not mean both have the same volume of air flow, the K&N filters even possibly flowing less air since they have less surface area? That would be bad. After all, those are not designed specifically for the Viper SRT-10, right? How does one test volume of air flow?

I would guess a lot less than both of the K&N's.

Anyone have a flowbench to test these?

Like in my previous post. If you pull the stock filters off and look inside. The rubber frame takes up a lot of the surface area. Plus, add in the metal screens that take up a bit of flow as well. With the K&N's the car pulls much harder from 2000 rpms to redline. The stock filters are junk. We put both sets of filters on the end of an electric leaf blower. The stock filters dont even compete with the volume of the K&N's. This is the same doubt I received after cutting the rain baffle out of my 00 ACR. Yes, it only showed only 3 more H.P. on the dyno. But at the track I trapped nearly 3/10 quicker on my ET. 11.96 @ 123 in the ACR. No cats, cut rain baffle. Ram Air Baby!!
I have a challenge, lets have someone from Dallas run the SRT-10 with just this mod against there stock SRT from a roll. I can guarantee a win on my side. We will have custom exhaust completed in less than a week. To follow will be dynos after a least 300 miles of drive time.

Maybe I should have put why I asked this.

Tony, Did you happen to try the RC-5050? The reason I ask is because if memory serves me, the 5050 is longer. Thus more filtering media.

Thanks

I went down to my local parts dept. and ordered the rc5000's today. i looked at the k&n catalog and the rc5050 is bigger in oval diameter but actually shorter in length. the rc5000 is 5 7/8 long and the rc5050 is 5 1/2 long. the larger oval size probably will not help as i think it may be too big and actually sit on the floor of the airbox which would not be good.

i may order one just to be sure though and will post my findings.

Thanks George. My memory must be shot.

I had put a filter on a TPI Camaro that was the same width as the RC-5000 but longer in length.

Do you happen to know the inside dimensions of the filter opening? Just for s**** and giggles, I would like to compare it against my K&N book and see if any other filter could possibly fit.

Thanks

Edit: I just found all the dImensions for the RC-5000 and RC-5050

Anyone know if K&N is going to make a Viper SRT specific replacement filter? That would be one that is designed specifically for the SRT and to maximize the surface area for the stock filter housing.

I've got to tell you guys that the RC-5000 K&N that BlackACR (Tony) is using just has to be the proper fitment. Tony and Chuck Slater paid a visit to my Viper pit in Dallas today in Chuck's new black SRT, and I took a look at some great first mods. Those K&N's seem perfect. Frankly, with the stock airbox, you really could not use anything either LONGER, or larger in diameter. I'm told the pair of them will flow 1300 cfm, and that's plenty. There is no doubt in my mind now after seeing this setup...... it's the way to go. After they left, I went straight to the computer and ordered up a set for myself.

However, I was truly most impressed with the exhaust mod. It now SOUNDS like a nasty Viper..... and with some noise....... by darn, that cam's got a little lump in it after all! A real nice chrome exhaust tip REALLY looks good in the middle of the black cover as well. Gotta have mine done ASAP!

Hmmm...... EBC Kevlar brake pads, K&N's ordered, an MGW Gripper shifter already here, the exhaust to do soon, the convert boot from JonB at the Parts Rack ordered, my new side sill body panel project under way to ditch the sharp slash....... say, this is starting to feel strangely familiar!!!!

Don't mean to be argumentative, but looking at the posted picture above, there seems to be obvious area for increased size (wouldn't we all like that). I'm sure this one works fine, but think I'll wait until K&N comes out with a specific application.

OK OK OK...What exhaust mod are you talking about???? I know people have beat up the SRT on the look of a S-2000, but I don't want it to sound like one. That was my first complaint about the Viper, it sounds too quiet.

It was funny I though about the chrome tip too like on the Gen I. I too ordered the RC-5000's over the weekend. :D

PLEASE tell me what you did to give it some bad A$$ attitude

Thanks,

ROB :usa:

So that this horse is well beat, I e-mailed K&N and asked if an SRT10 specific filter would be made, when, and what number. Their somewhat indirect answer was:

Unfortunately, there is no listing for a replacement filter for your vehicle at this time. Please check back in 60-90 days for a possible update. Also, you can check our web site at http://www.knfilters.com/ it is updated every Monday with new products.
Best Regards,

This is surprising given that the owner of K&N is a Viper Owner and a member of the Southern California Region Viper Club. You would think they would be very interested in giving an update on the product. I received the same type of response from my email to the company below....

Thanks for the email. Unfortunately we do not stock the part you are looking for. Sorry we couldn't help. If I can be of further assistance please feel free to contact me at any time.
