Man you guys are tough on a car that no one in the "real world" has driven yet. I'm expecting these GT's to be quite the car.
I have one on order, a contract and deposit in place. The power numbers and looks will provide quite a car. The 03 Cobra was found to be under rated on it's HP by a large margin. I am assuming the GT is also under rated at 500 HP, but won't know for sure until I get one on a chassis dyno.
I am not going to give up my GTS by any means! I love it and hope to keep my Blue/White one forever!
I've had a vette, many 'stangs, etc... But I think the looks of the GT rival the exotic, unique looks of my Vipers. I would say equally exotic looking cars.
But.... For one of the same reasons I love the Viper over the vette, other than the pure perfomance advantages....One of ours is made for every 1,000 or is it more like 5,000 of the vette's... I'm being told there will only be 2,003 (Ford 100th anniv) of the Ford GT's made, is the same reason I'm so excited about these GT's. But if I remember correctly DC said Dodge would only make a few thousand Vipers then stop production and here we are 11 years later still making them.
Is the GT worth the extra $50K or $60K???? Most likley not in a pound for pound performance line up. Is it worth the extra $$$ if I get one, and then only 2,003 of them are actually made......HELL YES!!!
A friend of mine a Ford dealer, says if the Ford GT is a hit, Ford will keep making them, but in a very limited number, (less than the Viper) so who knows how many will ever really get made.
Never-the-less, I am hoping mine makes it to me (may not be high enough on the waiting list to actually get one if only 2,003 are made), but, I am looking forward to getting it, driving it, and parking it right next to my original owner 97 Viper GTS, which will ALWAYS be the crown jewel in my car collection no matter what else is in the garage as well!!
