Very difficult to find a good R8 in the $80s. If you even find one it will have high miles and probably a history. You still need a good $100K mininum to get a good R8 and that is still a 2008 model, 2009 if your lucky.

M6 is a good buy right now. Lots of power and very reliable. If you are attracted to the looks, you can have a good buy for around 1/2 of MSRP now.

I agree with you on the R8's. I just happened on one the other day for 89k with 20k miles on it that was pretty flawless. It had the paddle shifters though which i'm not crazy about. I almost bought an M6. Beautiful cars. Of course that was all before I drove a Viper.

I think the R8 is a great daily driver. Other than that, it does not do anything for me. If I was going for an fun exotic, I would just go with the Gallardo since they are built on the same frame and made by the same company. I just feel like the Gallardo looks sexier and for close to the same price, I am going that route.
