Fooling arround with a pen and a piece of paper resulted into this;
Its like a "method" to measure the distance between cars. It can be apply to 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile, one mile, etc,etc... Probably some of you already know this so please correct me if I'm wrong.
Based on Motor Trend's last issue of Viper vs Vette:
The 1/4 mile:
Viper: 12.3 sec.
Vette: 12.8 sec.
1/4 mile = 1320ft
Viper's rate : 1320ft/12.3 sec. = 107.317ft/s
Vette's rate : 1320ft/12.8 sec. = 103.125ft/s
Now multiply the Vette's rate with the Viper's ET to know the position of the Vette when the Viper stoped the timers.
(103.125ft/s)(12.3s)= 1268.44ft
So when the Viper stoped the timers the Vette had covered 1268.44ft of 1320ft.
(1320ft)-(1268.44ft)= 51.56ft
The Vette was 51.56ft behind the Viper.
Vette's length= 179.7in = 14.975ft
So (51.56ft)/(14.975ft)= 3.44
Lets round that up to 3.5
If this "method" is correct then the Viper won by 3.5 car lengths
Now is this correct? Can some of you math experts check this out? Thanks for your time, Mike.
