I have a 3" corsa cat-back that's going into my 99 rt, I'm considering sticking with the stock cats for noise and ease of installation. A couple of questions:

1) I don't have a good place to work on the car myself, how hard is it to find an exhaust shop that will install aftermarket cats? I live in Seattle.

2) Any issues with installing a 3" catback on a 2.5" cat? I don't want to modify the stock cats--don't want any emissions hassles!

3) If I went with the high-flow cats how much louder would it be, what brand should I go with? I've done a search and there seems to be a lot of complaints about the RT cats not handling the flexing of the big V10.

Thanks for any info!

when I bought my car. The previous owner had that exact set-up. Stock cats, Corsa 3' cat-back system.. I opted to install Random Tech 3' high-flow cats, to help cool things down in the summer..

No problem at all,Parts Rack sells the cats, and stainless reducers to help ease the install. I would take it to an exhaust shop and have them weld it.. The clamps didnt work for me.. The RT
cats are 50 state legal, and come with a card that says so. Most exhaust shops should not have a problem with this..

Is it louder with the high-flows? Yes it is... But not too much drone. And its a nice sound.. Not a "I chopped off my muffler" sound, if you know what I mean.. I tried running no cats. That last 1 day, before I had the (un do) that.. WAY to loud, and not a "healthy" loud either.

Call Jon B. at Parts Rack, he'll take care of you..Good luck.

I have the 3 inch Corsa and RT high-flow cats. No drone; great sound at WOT; and you can carry on a conversation or hear the radio while cruising at 60 or more. Get a local shop to put it on and have it welded. You'll be glad you made the mod change.

I had the Corsa cat back installed on my 98 with stock cats, no problem at all. I did eventually change the cats to Roe hi flo's. Either way NO drone great sound. I'm doing the same now to my 97, but using Random Tech Hi Flos and Corsa.

We did same with our '05...prefer the Roe hi-flow cats, 3" Corsa Track Cat-Back exhaust and B&B ceramic coated stepped headers...GREAT sound...no drone. ~juli

Are the Random Tech 3' high-flow cats emissions legal, specifically CO legal?

yes, they come with a card, for emissions, 50 state legal. But on vipers, the cats are hidden in the side sills anyway. So it will just have to pass the sniffer..

It wont be for a while since i am stuck out here, but I will for sure when I get back. In fact all the parts will either be waiting there already, or already be installed, most likely the latter of the two as I would not want to be without my viper any longer, its already been long enough . I just know the sound will be amazing. Maybe some sound clips of GenIII's with corsa's and high flow cats from some members here will help me while im stuck out here. Thank you all for your tips and comments. :drive::usa::2tu::eater:
VERRRRRRY cool...let us know how you like the setup!!! ~juli
