after reading the other post stoked vs SC, got me thinking

what are the stoker options? 510, 540, etc?? is one type more reliable than the other? do they come with warranty?

Most tuners (if not all) will warranty a stroker motor for 12 to 24,000 miles.

No one is really doing 510's anymore now that the 542 cranks are available. If your going to do it 542 is the way to go - although 542 cranks are getting to be very scarce.

Anthony is right, if you want to stroke your engine, you'll have to wait a long time for the crankshaft. Before I had my car supercharged I was going to stroke it and ordered a full rotating assembly (including Moldex crank, piston rods, and Ross pistons). I was promised a 12 week turnaround time, but it took nearly 9 months to get the crank. Moldex is the best, but you'll have to wait. That's when I decided to go the S/C route.

Alternatively, I didn't stroke my engine, so my brand new, in-the-box rotating assembly is for sale. The first $8000 takes it.

Funny - I sent him a PM stating exactly that!!! I talked to Jason last week and considered buying your 542 stroker set-up. I just didn't want to post it without you or Jason knowing.

$8,000 is a great price!! I think there is only one other 542 Moldex crank floating around until another run is made.

I've still thought about getting another block and stroking it, but if someone wants it more than me, I'm willing to part with it.

Sw is making over 700 to the wheels with a 510. That's good enough for me!

I'm 99% sure its a 542. I don't think anyone is doing 510's any more. Why would you?? Same cost.

Most you can get from a 510 is 640-650 rwhp.

I talked to him last weekend and he told me it was a 510. He said it was some sort of offset crank. I dunno??

Hey - SW is running the 510 - courtesy of RSI - and it has 700 RWHP.

I have a High compression 510 under construction currently. Also, there is a difference in price between the 542 and the 510. The 510 uses a stock/modded Viper crank. So, it is cheaper because you dont need to buy a new crank!

Regards,

Wow - that's a lot of power from a 510 ci motor.

Can you explain how the stock crank is modified for the 510 stroker?? Who does this and what does it cost?

Typically they just re-grind the crank rod-journals - off-set, so the crank
has a longer throw(revolving radius). This necessitates replacing the rods with a smaller diameter, large end, rod. A machine shops that specializes
in crank grinding, can handle the modification.

In order to get the 510, don't they just grind the crank down to the smallest bearing size using an offset center? This moves the stroke out about .060" or whatever.
You can leave the rods alone if you get new pistons with a higher wrist pin position.

This is what one might do to a Chevy. I don't know if you can do this to a Viper.

If all one did was to stroke the engine out to 542 and nothing else, I would guess that you might pick up 50hp from the extra cubes. You would be increasing compression by this displacement increase, so you might pick up something there too.
There is also some leverage factor from the longer stroke. I don't know what that would be worth.

How big can a Viper engine go, bore and stroke, with a relatively stock block.

Anthony,

I am having John(H M S)do my Stroker. I checked with John and RSI, both tuners had a comparable price. I would suggest you talk to either of them. There are some modifications done to SW's car that make it have such a high output....it is not rocket science, but if you want to know the "secrets" send me a PM.

Does anyone have the stock deck height, bore and stroke, and stock rod length of the Viper engine?

What is the stroke at 542 cubes?

What I'd be looking for in a stroker kit is the longest custom rod and piston combo I could run and still have a durable piston (too light via cut out skirts etc is no good on the street).

I'll not get into the techno why for now - but that would definitely be my choice - despite the fact it would add cost. Having said that - a stroker engine that turned only 5500rpm could tolerate a low rod ratio for a while. But if there was any serious road racing planned - longest rod possible is only way to go IMHO - motor will be much happier at WOT and at top of rpm range. It comes down to intended use. Any ratio below 1.5:1 would worry me - but there are ways of making it live. Longer rods are just better, short rods are a cheap way out... that comment should get some flack... but I'm in good company on this one so will stick to it ;)

There is monumental differences between a 510 stroker and a 542-550 stroker.

STAY TUNED FOR A 550" Stroker at less than $ 30K

"thats all i've got to say bout that" for now.

I am also thinking about going with stroker motor. The only thing is I am concerned about is getting stroked. Would like to see some dyno queen numbers then some track results from you guys.
