Well, at the last minute, I passed on the red 2003 that I was considering...because, after further prodding, the seller admitted that it had been in a wreck, and that he fixed it himself at his auto shop (including "straightening the frame...***?"), so that the accident would not be picked up by CARFAX or AUTOCHECK. Oh yeah....also got from him that he had re-painted parts of the car as well. 
I appreciated his honesty, and politely told him I was not interested anymore. And then cursed myself for not having asked those basic questions over the phone before wasting time and seeing the car in person.
So, it looks like I'll definitely hold onto the Gen 1 for now, and keep the other eye out for the Gen 3...hopefully bright yellow. Did I just say that??
Thanks for your words of wisdom, guys...I will definitely be adding the Gen 3 when I find the right one, and probably not give up the Gen 1.
