I'm in the market for a supercharger. I have done a little research but I'm a novice at this subject so I could use some advice. Talked to Sean Roe and he's not ready yet with Gen 1 superchargers. Who out there presently makes a reliable and reasonably priced one for Gen 1.

Thanks guys,

Adam

;) Okay Chuck, I just got my first issue of viper magazine and was looking through ads. Saw several supercharger/tuners out there and it made me anxious.

Can't blame me for that. But your right Sean is worth waiting for! :D

Talk to you during the week Chuck. Can't wait to take my baby on a date!

Just help me understand : SR is 'not ready yet'...
Is he going to do something for Gen 1 ?
If 'yes', is he already working on it ? What's ETA ?

Thanks !

Any idea of the cost for a DLM ?

Sean Roe apparently offers a lot of bang for the buck. Anybody got the total cost break down ? About $5K for the blower. How much for the labor and other parts ?

Dan - nice car by the way. Love it !

Roe's kit is a DIY so there is no labor and the kit is $7K.
DLM packages start at $18K from what I've seen.

Thanks!

DLM is between $20K and $43K (roughly last year's prices)...
It all depends on the "Stage" you want (I,II,III). I opted for "Mutant", which means replacing a few additional things to handle the extream HP/Torque plus the price of the "Stage III+". To get the best of what DLM has to offer plus shipping to and from West Coast to Florida, you'd better tuck about $50k to 60k away just to be safe.

Please realize that you get much more than just a Supercharger System and Timing Controler bolted on. The series of electronics alone boggle the mind. Doug must have worked for NASA or something.

What DLM does to your Viper is in a category buy itself, and should not be compared to other Systems. DLM's is different. A lot of the other Systems are great and super values (I love what Sean Roe is doing), but they are simply not the same...

Dan,

Did you perfrom those changes to your Gen I ? I checked out your website and it did not mention any supercharger.
In case you installed the DLM package, can you share your experience and some performance numbers ?
I don't think I could afford it (I'm but an employee for a shoe company  ), but it's always nice to hear about stuff like this. The $7K for the SR pacakge is more in line with my discretionary income, haha.

Your Viper has always been one of my favorites. It just looks...mean. I like that sinister look of the black Gen I's. And then that Venzano interior.
Even if I upgrade to an SRT-10, I'd keep my Gen I.

Okay, I will add my 2¢ here. First off, both Sean and Doug are fantastic guys to work with and know their stuff. How those guys in Florida managed to get them BOTH, I have no idea. I guess Kansas isn't a hotspot for tuners... :D

Anyway, Doug Levin finished my good friend Gary's Gen I RT/10 about a year ago. In my humble opinion, this is simply the finest Gen I in the land:

You don't see the gold stripes, the modified hood (done after this photo), or any of the other great things on this car. What you CAN see is a motor that very easily put 787.6 RWHP(!!) to the dyno in just one pass. That is intercooled and NO nitrous. We are talking 900 flywheel horsepower with no NOS! Looks pretty darn good too:

Cost? No idea, but I can assume it wasn't cheap. I can also tell you it was worth every penny paid. Gary very thoughtfully (foolishly) tossed me the keys and let me take my sons for a ride (one at a time, of course). It was scary fast and I didn't even get into it that much with the kiddies in the car (probably Gary's plot all along). And the sound? WOW! Every car that pulled up next to us got wide-eyed, especially those that knew that strange whistling sound from under the hood. The "SUPERCHARGED BY LEVIN" header on the windshield told the story...

I suspect Gary will find this thread or his lovely bride Nancy will. I am sure he will have more to say on the subject, but in the meantime - it is one AWESOME upgrade to a Gen I and blows away every other Viper in KC and then some!!

Thank Yves!

You're very kind!

Doug still has my Viper, and I have no numbers yet. I sent it to him March of last year. I do know that Doug can pull as much HP as is possible out of a Gen-1. More important than HP is reliability, and that's DLM's specialty. He makes monster machines and yet you can drive them to work every day for years.

I haven't updated my car's WEB Site yet, as I don't know what to put yet. The thing about DLM is that you don't know what's been done until it's finished. I can't even guess at this point. Every DLM Viper is different than the previous one. A lot of R&D goes into every job.

Once finished, I will put a ton of performance statistics, Video, and photos up for people to see.

One more thing: I really like the look of the Roe System. I appreciate the effort put into ascetics. It's very hard to make a System that just bolts on. With the low Gen-1 numbers out there, it's very hard for Tuners to make the business decision to produce products such as this for such a small market. That's why I had to seek DLM out...

Thanks again,

-Dan

900 HP ?
Holy smoke !

So I guess that also justifies another couple of thousand on brakes and suspension ?

This starts to sound like our marketing guys launching a campaign : they always end up spending the double amount of what's budgeted :)

I'm hoping for more than 1050 HP at the crank on my Gen-1 (sorry for the pressure, Doug!!). The only things left to switch out are: Suspension, Wheels and Tires. I've already gone "STOP•TECH" brakes, and love it.

I need a quote on a complete suspension upgrade as well as 18" 275 (front) and 19" 345 (rear) wheel/tire combos if anyone is interested... :D

Call Doug Levin Motorsports. They build one heck of a car. Fast and reliable and use only the best parts. It's overkill and worth spending the money.

Well, my DLM ACR made 749rwhp and I wouldn't allow Doug to to do any internals to the engine. The heads have never been off the car, runs on pump gas, and is relialbe as heck.
It is interccoled however.
