It's just not fun anymore:mad: Speed limit was lowered to 30 mph. I stayed away for 2 years because of the police swarming the hill.

Went out Sunday and found only 3 police cars on duty. Bad news was I met all three. First 2 were parked at the entrance to the dragon and got me 82 in a 40. Good news was I got a written warning. State trooper coming out of the last curve before entering NC got me for 78 in a 30. Again a warning (verbal this time). All officers were extremely polite and courteous. Maybe my age and clean record helped in avoiding the tickets. Both reminded me that I only got one warning and they would remember such a unique car. I'll probably stay away for some time or go some day at sunrise or just before dark like we usedd to. Very little traffic and no police.

I've been on the road over the years in several Vettes, an S2000 and a CTS-V. The Viper was a hell of a lot of fun, handled perfectly and could hit 90+ between curves. Great ride just wish it could be done without the fear of tickets/ loss of car and possible imprisonment.:drive:

It's because the local people and cops are plain tired of all the traffic. I know a guy that lives near there and he hates the summer when hoards of road tourists gather at the dragon. It costs the county lots of money to rescue injured crashers and sometimes bring out the medical chopper to take them to the hospital. It sounds like they're trying to do something about it to discourage people from driving the dragon. I'm sure they love the notoriety and tourist money but don't want the speed demons that create a burden on their county.
