Teamtech Harness....

just a heads up to anyone wanting to order a teamtech harness....after back and forth conversation with Curt I was told I needed their Viper harness awith AntiSubmarine bar....the bar bolts into the existing rear seat bolts and the crotch straps attach to it....I got a great video of Curt installing the harness on an 03 Viper....that was my first concern but I figure they must be the same....

well, here's the bar installed and the factory seat bolt
tightened....obviously very unsfae....

so I just attach the crotch straps to the eye bolts along with the lap belts....all is going good....until I get to the shoulder straps....looking at the video Curt easily slides the buckles thru the holes in the seats....easy stuff....except the seat on the Gen 4 are different and the buckles don't fit thru....

alright, I gotta take the buckles off the straps....that where the problem arises....getting the straps thru the spring loaded buckle is near implossible....after an hour I finally got one....the other would not go so I wound having to cut the end to get it thru.....not ideal and not what I would expect to have to do with a $500+ harness to make it work....

anyways....the moral of the story is that the Teamtech Viper harness and Antisubmarine bar are not ideal for the Gen 4 Viper....

Mine fit very well?!

The holes in my seat were a little tight but it made it through no problem.

I'm sure that Jon will have something to say on this.

Curt had me order the Dodge Viper Harness....Part #6004 with antisub bar....do you know the part number of your harness?

I don't know the part number and mine doesn't have an anti sub bar - but I do have the anti sub straps that go back to the seat belt mounts (IIRC).

My only complaint with the Team Tech harness is that there's prominant logo's all over them that are glued on.

The Team Tech harness is notably nicer than the Sabelt harness I use in my race car.

I bought my harness through Jon at Parts Rack.

I did not do a bar, I installed eye bolts for the sub belt. And my shoulder belts slide thru the seats, it is a little tight and you have to turn the buckles sideways, but, it fits.

I ordered the 6pt teamtechs from Jon B about 3 years ago and I dont have an antisub bar. Is this something new? My sub belt attached to the same bolts as the lap belts like the video that came with the set shows.

I would like to see and hear more about the bar.

You should cut the carpet and padding around the rear seat bolt and you will get another ~1/4 inch of clearance for the nut to safely seat.

No issues with 3 sets of these now in SRT's, 2 Gen III's and 1 Gen IV, same basic install on all three. Ordered all 3 sets from Jon B at Partsrack.

No anti sub bar is necessary for the 6 points. Use the lap belt bolts to attach both lap belts and crotch strap belts.

Putting the shoulder belts through the openings in the seat back can be tight but is do-able. Not sure why Teamtech doesn't make a change here.

One other thing, and this is just my opinion for what it's worth, no disrespect. When I first started with Viper I made a number of mistakes buying parts and accessories. I learned pretty quickly that there isn't much good info out there and there aren't many companies / people knowledgeable about Viper.

I found Jon B a Partsrack and he knows his stuff. I'd wager that if you had ordered from Jon, you would not be having problems now.

you may be right.....I thought by going directly to the manufacturer I wouldn't have a problem.....thing is, Teamtech makes a bunch of different harnesses....i'm guessing the one that you have and mine are much different.....I inserted the eye bolts in the factory holes in the tranny tunnel and on the left behind the seat bolt.....I was told the lap belt application wasn't correct....not saying you are wrong, just giving you the info I was given....all of mine were camlocks anyways so the eyebolts were a must....and there was no way the buckles were goingt thru the seats....way to bug

anyways, live and learn....I'll be calling Jon next time for sure....

Had the 6 point Teamtechs installed in my GEN4 Viper, and i am having the same problem with the crotch belts, it wont clear the seat cushion, so belts are useless. mine did not come with the antisub bars.
Ordered from JonB, installed by Chuck Tator... so all done by the best, not sure whats wrong.
Any ideas ?

Mine would not clear.. i cant get the buckle over the cushion, even with the seat all the way back.

I have no problem running the buckles through the seat back holes, you do have to turn them sideways a little and maybe a jiggle but then they slide through no problem.

Sounds to me like confusion on install. Mine were just put in and they are fantastic. Best belts on the market and they work well in my ACR ( Gen IV ). Wanted the 6 points over the 5 points and great solution that Curt has and not really sure why you are having the problems --- would give him another call.

Have recommended TeamTech Harnesses for years for the breastbone protection and the fact that they were a Viper Days sponsor from way back. Running these in the Viper Cup and they high quality , researched belts , am sure Curt can help walk you through the install.

MASH: The 6-pt sub belts SNAP to the Lap Belt anchors, and follow the same routing as those lap belts ...ON TOP of the seats. NOT UNDER!! The buckle hangs, inverted, off the front of the seat. E-Z fix....just unsnap, shorten, and re-snap.

And NO, you dont need the tie-bars in front unless you bought the WRONG harness somewhere else.

I, too, bought mine from JonB for my '08...Jon was very helpful but...installation was very frustrating. Wouldn't it be good for
TeamTech to do some installation instructions with illustrations
for some guidance?? At one point I was so p----d trying to install
and then adjust them (which takes as much time as the install) that I
told Jon that I might just convert them to tie-downs for my trailer...
To me it is inconceivable that a manufacturer would not provide
instructions for installation, adjustment and proper use and care.

you should not be running the belts from under the seat....that is not a safe way to run the crotch belts.....

Big thanks to JonB, i called him today and he explained how it should be set up, i am going to work on it tonight and see if i can get the belt to work
But yes, JonB says not to run the crotch belts under the seat, and also not to run it through the crack between the upper and lower seat cushion (coming from the back)... both these ways are not the correct and safe way to do it..

venomred and mash, glad to help. TeamTech has done 3 Viper videos, the 1st was a VHS.....the latest a Viper SRT-CD. And VRed, I did prio-mail U the install CD the very day I found out that TT forget to include it, an unusual oversight. Sorry!

In fairness, venomred bought the double-adjustable harnesses, with releases at BOTH ends; I did my newest set 2 weeks before he did, same result: The adjusters are confusing and difficult to get set up the first time, but then WONDERFUL on track.... I just did 25++ sessions at PIR Fri-Sat-Sun, with passengers in almost every one. Doris did even more. THANK GOD (and TeamTech) for the double-adjustments.

seems to be some confusion on this part of the install as that is what Curt from Teamtech instructed me to do on my install.....that is the whole reason for the antisub bar.....also I believe that is how the instructions are on the Teamtech install video....

No confusion here -

Because Vipers ALL have pre-tapped anchor bosses, the bar is $uperfluou$ in street /track cars. OK to have if in$talled properly, but not needed. Extra labor and weight. French Fries with that? 3 reasons you dont want the belts routed thru the rear-seat cushion interface:

1) In a wreck, the seats can and do break off their tracks, or the seat back breaks off the seat bottom frame. When that happens, the loop of harness improperly routed around and thru that area goes SLACK...and you fly forward til it extends. BADNESS.

2) The harness webbing can bind and fray in that hinge area. BAD.

3) Improper routing thru that seat hinge can FEEL tight. When in fact a buckle, or the webbing/pads might simply be binding, "pinched" by the seat recliner, creating a tight feel forward, but slack aft. In an accident, that slack goes away instantly, and the occupant flies forward til the slack is tightened. BADNESS.

You want the harness webbing to take the STRAIGHTEST POSSIBLE PATH to their anchor points, whether that be roll-bar mounts, or anchor bosses. NO EXTRA ROUTINGS! Never, ever, up and over seat backs from the floor for example. As a past Viper Days, SCCA, and current ICSCC tech inspector, I have seen some "cheap and fast" jury-rigged installs that would not restrain you even in a moderate hit. Many come out of the Auto-Cross venues where all the belt does is hold you in the seat for car control, not save your life. Improper routings and cheap belts are OK, allowed and functional in much of Auto-X.

ONE Company was allowed to do Chrysler-Reimbursed Seat Belt Recall Replacements in model years 1998-2000. (GT2/GTS-R/ACR) as those affected know. Thanks. JonB

An old post brought to life here but thanks to Jon and Teamtech for all the info about the RIGHT way to install these belts. I just updated my belts today with the new ones on my Gen 4 ACR, and as Jon says the sub belt goes on top of the seat and not under as it can catch the seat adjuster and allow the seat to slide forward under braking. He refers to it as a diaper fit. I also got their 3-2-3 to properly fit the hans device. Tomball Dodge did a great job of the install and good to go now.
