In your opinion what are the top 5 greatest sports cars ever to be built? Now, I suggest we have a few guidelines in the selection. The car has to have been out at least a year so it can be road tested. So that excludes our Gen 5, the upcoming 662 hp Stang, the F12 Ferrari, etc. The list should include the cars looks, performance, and character. My top 5 are:

1. Gen 4 Viper ACR
2. Bugatti Veyron
3. Porsche 959
4. Ford GT
5. Buick Grand National

What say you?:eater:

I need to practice more.....your bands pay way better than mine do based on the iron in your garage!:D

I'd only make one change to the above.....1969 Corvette instead of the 57.

Take the Buick off and add a Lambo and you are pretty good. A "sports car" has to be able to do curves... Buick only straight line, plus it is bacially a Regal painted black with a big turbo. Cool car, I agree, a great sports car... Not.

This is VERY tough. I'm biased towards the Viper (obviously), and the Jag, since I grew up in one. My mother bought (new) a '71 E-type 'vert V12, one of the first 3 in the country (I was 8). She had it until a few years ago. The Buick is a great car, which was brutal for its day, and is still fast by today's standards. It got us through the Dark Days of the Smog Era. However, it is a muscle car, not a sports car. The Veyrpn is a tank (a very fast tank, LOL!) It weighs more than my SRT8 Charger. Several P-cars could be on that list, and I think the Ford GT is also a good choice.

Think there should be a Ferrari on that list: Enzo? Upcoming F12? 458? Or my favorite, 599 GTO. Just TOO many good choices to limit it to 5.

Viper ACR Gen 4 , Viper GTS, Porsche GT3, Ford GT. Austin Healey 3000 MK III, 1967(sic) Alfa GT Junior, Mercedes SLK AMG,
I am lucky to own or have owned four of the above.:drive:

AND...my dream ...the Holy Grail 1958 Scaglietti Ferrari TR 250 "Pontoon Fender" with 3 liter and cutaway frt fenders (only 20 built)

I did not know 29 years ago when I bought a wonderful 1:18 model for my 5 mo old son ( I tossed it in the crib at him) that one would sell for 10.7 million USD ( not the model ha)

These are some excellent choices. And a few of you guys have me googling cars (which was also what I was hoping for) that are classic sports cars that many of us are unaware of. I've never heard of a BMW 507, but I googled it and it is a seriously badass and **** car. As far as requiring cars to be able to handle well to be classified as a sports car, that would eliminate the Gran National, every single Vette before the C-4, and several of the classics. The Gran National seemed to come out of no where and was a seriously bold badass statement by an American car maker...captured the American soul and character....and were only made in black.

SICK!

If I would have said name your top 6 cars the Ferrari Enzo would have been #6. Its easy to see Im partial to American cars, but that Ferrari TR 250 is legendary! :D

If I were rich I would add the F 40, and the Miura even though I think Lambo stole from the GT 40 for the Miura design.

A baseball player who lives nearby has the Aventator (and 458). It looks bad a$$ from the rear but to me the rest of it looks funky.

I too came very close to picking the Vette Z06, but I think Chevy missed the opportunity on power. Had it come out with say, 530 hp or so I think it would have been extremely dominant. Also most articles blasted the car as a daily driver and said it would shake your teeth out over a bumpy road. Still a very good car though, just not one of the top 5 ever. Now...the ZR 1 is a different story. If it wasnt supercharged (which in my view changes the soul of a Vette) it would have made the list.

The problem with the 458 is they are so small. Like the new Mclaren. You spend all that money for a pocket rocket. I moved to Miami recently and now I park my 2010 Yellow and Black ACR next to a little 458 everyday at home. The 458 is like a mini cooper and in fear of the beast that pulled up alongside that is the ACR. We need a pocket rocket class.

It's hard not to nominate the McLaren F1. 240 mph top speed back in 1993. It was the fastest production car for 15 years. Looks amazing.

My personal favorite car has always been the Ferrari F50.

Hmmm. Not sure about that. I have a 458 parked next to 2 Vipers in my garage. The 458 is 3 inches longer, and inch wider with a 6 inch wider wheel base. Is the ACR that much different?? Maybe the wing makes it seem that way. (and while I love ACRs I don't think the 458 has a lot of fear)

OMG! A '38 Talbot Lago 150. You Sir are a man of class. :2tu:

A guy in another car club I belong to has a replica of one. Very stylish.
