My first DC purchase was a 2000 Durango, I swear I will never buy another Dodge car or truck again, a total pos in my opinion. Hated it and the service I got from Dodge. I now replaced with an 03 Subarban. I also got an FE Gts just last month and I see similar Dodge traits, but I am willing to let them slide as the power and looks make up for it's poor craftmanship.

At the risk of raising a few eyebrows from the died in the wool Mopar guys, I'll throw out my opinion and a little history from my perspective. I'm not sure being totally brand loyal always builds a better product. It certainly didn't in the latter part of the 70's and early 80's. If a large number of people hadn't starting slipping away from Detroit back then, they would never have had a reason to do better. Several foreign brands were fuel injected and FWD in the early 70's. Why not Detroit?(they had it). Cost? Profit? Greed? Enter the free market, competition, and capitalism. Chrysler was able to regain a foothold due, in part, to a large government bailout. The Viper evolved out of this era of struggle for the big 3. The spirit of competition and a free market economy is what builds a better product. That being said, in 35 years of car buying, I have never been brand loyal and most likely never will be. The Viper buy was a totally spontaneous purchase which we talked about one week and did the next. I consider this car to be, far and away, the most fun vehicle I have ever owned. I actually go into withdrawal at storage time. The only advantage to putting it away is that it keeps another 8-10K miles off it. If I were able to run it year round, I'd have at least 50K miles on right now instead of 24.
As for other Dodge products I've owned:
1951 Dodge Coronet Flathead 6, Fluid Drive, 3 speed on the column –1st car(big back seat)
1971 Dodge Van 225 Slant 6(one of the best motors Dodge ever made)
1996 Dodge 4x4 Ext. Cab 318 CI
1997 Dodge 4x4 Ext. Cab 318 CI
1999 Dodge 4x4 Ext. Cab 360 CI (a real gas hog)
My dad has had 4 Wagoneers starting in 1965 and ending in 1984(the last year for full size Wagoneers) and also a 1993 Grand Cherokee .
My brother has had 3 Grand Cherokee Limiteds---currently has a 2000. He has also had 2 Caravans.
In our garage is a 2000 Viper RT/10, 1990 Ford(SHO), 1995 Eldorado Touring Coupe, and a 2001 GMC Sierra 4x4 Ext. Cab. My son has a '96 Honda Civic. I can't speak to the new Dodge, but there is no doubt in my mind that the GMC truck I have now is a better vehicle than than the '94 style Dodge truck -- of which I had 3 and put over 150K miles on them. I honestly don't care for the looks of the new Dodge truck--yet. Along the path, I've also had other brands including 2 SAABs, a '69 MGC-GT , a ‘71 VW Super Beetle Convertible, and even a 1977 Datsun pick up(rustbucket, but ran good). I've had several Ford pick ups over the years as well-- and some Chevrolets and Pontiacs too.
I guess if I had to sum it up----'variety is the spice of life'.
IMO not being brand loyal does more to instill competition among all the car companies to build a better product.

Well... Not quite as exciting as some, but here is my short list:

'95 Neon Sport - My first new car
'01 Dakota SLT 4x4 - New, traded the Neon. Still own it
'01 Viper GTS - Used (althoughly barely!) Still own it - will never sell it

Hope to get a Hemi Ram sometime in a year or two, and also like the SRT-4. Wife is dying for the Chrysler Hemi to be made...

Wife has a '02 Jeep Liberty (traded in her '95 Wrangler, comes from a Jeep family that also has a '98 Cherokee, '85? Cherokee, and a '72 CJ.

To answer the Perennial Corporate Questions: "Why should we do anything special for Viper owners? Why should we endure their gripes? We sold them a car - isn't that enough?"

I never owned a DC vehicle until I purchased my first Viper in 1996.

As a result of my first Viper purchase and the people I have met within the VCA, I have made the following subsequent purchases of brand new DC vehicles:

(1)99 RT-10 (2) 99 ACR (3)99 Dodge Ram 2500 (4)00 Dodge Ram 2500 (5)01 ACR (6)01 PT Cruiser (7)01 freightliner FL112 (8)03 SRT-10 (9)another 03 SRT-10 (10)03 Competition Coupe (11)03 Dodge Ram 3500.

Therefore, my original Viper purchase resulted in approximately $800,000 of additional new vehicle purchases by me alone, not to mention all the spare parts and service as well as referrals I have made to friends and associates.

One other thing I would like to mention. I became a frequent participant in Viper Days events over the years and that helped convince me that I wanted to use DC equipment for towing around the country. That's the only reason I purchased 3 P/U trucks, a Freightliner, and a couple of hundred thousand dollars in parts and services from Dodge.

I'm a retired CPA and I am certain DC's accounting staff has no clue as to how profitable the Viper platform has been for the company, nor do they fully appreciate the influence that Skip Thomas's Viper Days events have had on sales. I know DC has generated over $1 million in sales from me because of my original Viper purchase.

I certainly hope the right person in DC reads this.

My brother owned a dealership so I had the liberty of owning countless sports cars but as Dodge goes.

96 Viper Rt/10 (still the ulimate sports car by far)
2000 Dodge Caravan (I know - shhhh!, I'm still embarrassed)
1998 Dodge Quad Cab 1500 (beauiful black truck) I would be interested in the new one coming out this fall with the Viper package. It's supposed to be incredible.
1970 Challenger RT - my Dad bought brand new and gave me when I turned 16 - He order the 426 Hemi, but they delayed him several weeks and he settle for the 383 back then!!! If only!!

Other than a Viper, I would never own a Chrysler product (excluding Mercedes). I just don't feel like the quality is there. My brother has a Durango and he has a lot of problems with it. Hey, I figured you wanted my honest opinion!

Since buying my first Viper, my family has purchased a Durango, two Jeeps, three more Vipers, and now we are looking at buying a PT Cruiser. A close family friend is probably going to buy a viper very soon as well. Several other friends have purchased other Dodge, and Chryslers,as well.

4 vipers (still have my 03)
2 Jeeps (we still have both)
1 Durango

My first Dodge was a 1948 sedan;my dad next bought a 1954 Plymouth; then a '58 Plymouth Belvedere AND a '58 Dodge Custom Royal sedan with a healthy 350 with 4bl and dual exhausts (thus the commencement of my addiction to dragracing); then a '61 Dodge, a '65 Newyorker; MY personal first was a new '64 Valiant Signet, 4 spd with Super 225 slant six, then a new'66 Charger 383 4bl with A/C,then a '71 Plymouth Gran Coupe, followed by a bunch of brand X's, but I returned to the fold with a '92 Stealth TT, a '95 Dakota, a '98 Dakota, then a '94 RT/10, and later my current Viper, a '96 GTS. I also have a red '61 Chrysler 300G hardtop, restored. I've always been a Mopar fan, and still am. When the hemi's come out in the sedans, we'll own one, God willing.

That reminds me, I did purchase a used '66 Hemi Charger in 1984. It was a wonderful car with torque like a Viper, but not nearly as nimble.

I've been a lifelong Mopar fan my whole life thanks to growing up as a Richard Petty fan. I'd wanted a Viper since I saw the RT/10 concept and saved for a long time and sacrificed two Chargers (including my first car ever) to get my '00 GTS. The following is the list of Mopars I've owned:

'68 Charger - 383 4bbl
'69 Charger R/T SE - 440 4bbl
'87 Lancer ES - 2.2 Turbo
'90 Spirit ES - 2.5 Turbo
'94 Plymouth Duster - 3.0 V6
'96 Sebring LXi - 2.5 V6
'00 300M - 3.5 V6
'00 Dakota R/T - 5.9 (360) V8
'00 Viper GTS - 8.0 V10
'03 300M Special - 3.5 V6

My next vehicle change will be the Dakota R/T for the meanest, fastest Charger they're going to build.

Never have bought a foreign car... probably never will.

1974 Roadrunner (440) (Blue w/white stripes)
1997 Viper GTS (Blue w/white stripes) (Totaled)
1997 Viper GTS (Blue w/white stripes)

If Chrysler builds a Blue w/white stripes car with a big engine I'll buy it. (How about a Durango RT Hemi in Blue w/white stripes?)

Hey Viper Fanatics!

This is my first post on this site, so here goes!

My Chrysler history unfolded as I slowly drifted away from General Motors Pontiac Kid's Cars (Trans Am's 1979 & 1982 with fully modified 454 Big Block Nitrous power).

I drifted toward Daimler & Chrysler products including the following:

2002 Viper RT/10
2000 Chrylser Sebring JXI Convertible
1988 Chrysler Lebaron GTC

2000 Mercedes Benz ML 320
1997 Mercedes Benz E320

Here is the my list;

1999 Viper GTS (New)
2001 Jeep Liberty Ltd. Ed. (New)...Daughter
2003 Jeep Liberty Ltd. Ed. (New)...Wife

2003 Jeep Liberty Ltd. Ed. (New)...A friend bought after seeing two parked Jeeps and a Viper in front of my house.

Before taking delivery of my 99 Viper GTS, I asked the dealer to hang on to my Viper while I build a garage for it. The eye candy Silver/Conn. GTS was roped off in the show room, and remained there for four weeks.

When I went back to pick it up, the salesman told me that they have sold every silver car on their lot since the Viper has arrived. The smile is still on my face, thanks Dodge.

..Here is my list and story;

1999 Dodge Viper GTS
2001 Jeep Liberty Ltd. Ed. Daughter
2003 jeep Liberty Ltd. Ed. Wife

My garage was not ready when my new silver GTS arrived at the dealership. So it remained there while the garage was being finished. Meanwhile at the dealership the Viper was roped off and put on display in the show room.
The 99 Silver GTS/Con. Leather looked amazing, an eye candy backdrop to the remaining cars.

When it was time to take the Viper home, the salesman told me with a big smile on his face, that they have sold every silver car on their lot. Then he added if a customer couldn't afford a viper, he still wanted to take it's little brother home.

I really enjoy my Chrysler products, right now I'm afraid I have too many though :headbang:

'95 Red Viper
'94 Pewter Viper (Project)
'97 Plymouth Grand Voyager (grocery getter and dog show vehicle)
'93 Ram 3/4 ton diesel (Viper towing rig with same torque as my Viper's)
'89 Shelby Dakota, for sale....looking for a good home :)
'79 Dodge Little Red Express Truck (first in line for restoration after the shop is done... Will assume towing duties when done)
'66 Sunbeam Tiger. (Sunbeam was a British company owned by Chrysler before it went under, neat, fast and an all around fun car, has a Ford 260 V-8 in it. Yep, Chrysler sold a car with a Ford engine in it.)

My first DC purchase was the '01 RT10. Bought a Chrysler Sebring Limited Conv. ('02) and was less than impressed, so disposed of it in 11/02. Plan to keep the viper until I retire.
