Thermostat Housing Coolant Leak

Hi all:

I've got the thermostat housing coolant leak problem. Seems to be fairly common judginb by past posts. I'm in the process of removing the intake manifold to make some room and be able to get at the thermostat. I've got everything disconnected and ready to remove the intake manifold but it looks like there is one more connection on the bottom side of the manifold toward the rear, near the thermostat housing. It appears to be a hard pipe and seems to be attached with screws on the bottom side of the manifold. Seems impossible to access it. Is there a trick to this? Thanks!

Vipers are NOT all the same!.Specify year and model.My guess is it's an early Gen I with a 4-rib intake???

Sounds like a Gen1..

It sounds like the Fuel line clamp to the intake..Best to disconect it on the frame down next to the transmission (snap realease)..

Hey Baz,I was trying to get him to think alittle!!! Don't forget to unbolt the one hold bolt(bracket) towards the rear and on top of the motor,under the intake manifold!

Yes, I removed my intake manifold by disconnecting the snap release connector by the driver side firewall. You push the lines tighter together, while squeezing the connectors; then without letting go, pull the lines apart. You then pull the entire intake plenum out as a whole with the fuel line attached. Make sure your car is cold because that's fuel! If you have a hard time getting the line to slip past the thermo housing, simply unbold the housing from the block (4 male torx bolts).

yeap, that's the fuel line and the way to disconnect it is using the quick disconnect. on my early '94 (with magnesium 4-rib manifold) it was on the left rear of the engine.

On a Gen1, keep in mind that leaks even work their way through the bolts. Ensure you chase the threads and use ATV on the threads before installing. Also use ATV on the gaskets. Replace the thermostat while you are at it. Torque to specs. Call Tator if you have any concerns and get your parts 20% off no shipping.

Hey guys - thanks for all the advice. I was out of town and didn't get to reply. Forgot to mention my car was a 95 RT/10. Ya, I didn't know that was the fuel line, but that makes sense. I'll look for the splitter and see if I can get it to seperate. Thanks!
