Hey Guys,

I need opinions/suggestions on this, I am thinking doing Navigation with a stock look on my viper. Found on ebay but it's from an 01 Dodge Durango and It includes the radio, the GPS antenna, the nav disc, and a wiring harness but for the 01 Durango. I was wondering if this will work on my viper, also if its plug n play. Thank you in advance :)

I just installed an RB1 on my 2010 and I searched the site and read several threads on this subject. some info is good some is not.

Ultimately I installed it successfully including the ipod/phone adapter. here is my recent thread,

http://forums.viperclub.org/threads...nstalling-the-ipod-adaptor-to-my-RB1-Nav-unit

Not sure if the 2001 unit you talk about would work ( try to get a 2003 or later unit). Also make sure you get the latest version or later version of the nav disc as I found out the version I got
was about 6-7 years old.... The newer version of the disc I just got had a part number ending in "I"..not the latest but more recent than the one I had.

Your PM box is full ViperCobra. The AI unit you are looking at will work for sure, and it comes with the GPS antenna. The DVD *may* be inside, so get it first and check before buying one. But it may be old anyway with older maps, so its up to you if you want to find the newer DVD later.

The other listing you saw said the pictures were 'like' the one you are buying... so who knows what that one really is. Avoid.

I just installed an RB1 in my 2005 about 3 months ago. Make sure that it is the lastest RB1 because the early ones had some issues. I think mine was a G or H. I installed both the GPS and the Sirius antennas above my radio. I made a bracket for the antennas but BOY WAS IT TIGHT FOR THE HAND. The bracket had the hole drilled for the Sirius antenna and the GPS mounted beside it and the bracket went on top the ac duct above the radio. Works GREAT

The RB1 is ages behind anything that you can buy for less from the aftermarket and honestly quite annoying. You are honestly better off going aftermarket.

Agree, but it depends on what you are looking for. I have an AVIC-X940BT in my truck, two amps, 1F Cap, 0-gauge cables... but I would never put that in my Viper since I don't want to cut the dash up. I don't like DIN sizes since you need the oval to square adapter and it looks bad, in my opinion. I wanted the STOCK look but also NAV, so the RB1 works well. It doesn't really do anything else, but I don't listen to music when driving that car, although I am looking into a bluetooth adaper perhaps to stream from my phone when I do.

But yeah, there is no comparing the RB1 versus an aftermarket radio in terms of features, but it just depends on your goal.

I just did this swap myself. Took me about 40 minutes to remove and replace. Makes the interior look much, much better.

Thank you all for the replies and suggestions. My goal basically is just to get the Navigation and the Stock look, not really much into music when driving that's why I'm looking into the RB1. Special thanks to "ohlarikd" for his replies tom my *** and suggestions. :).... Thanks again guys :)

+1 on this. I pulled my RB1 out of a 2005 PT Cruiser and it has its problems. Very sensitive to power cycling (i.e. when you turn the car off and start again within a few minutes). Get the latest rev you can.

And I had problems with a nav disc from ebay. Get the real one from the Mopar partner.

Ok, here is where you will tape the antenna. It is right between the two air ducts. Everything above it is plastic, so it has a good signal.

You must be registered for see images attach

And here is the unit installed in my 05

Its that very small grey block on the silver shelf between the ducts. Hard to see.
. Oh I see :)... How come yours is colored gray. Mostly I've seen they are colored black like I just bought :(.
