This REALLY ****** me off

A few weeks ago I dropped my car off at Huffines Dodge in Plano to have my bumper & tail light replaced. Yesterday I went to pick it up and my car now has 50 more miles on the odometer and my check engine light is on. I can also smell my clutch. I'm SOOO frickin ********** I can't stand it. I told the guy when I dropped it off not to drive my damn car and someone did it anyway. Do these idots think people won't notice it when they put miles on the odometer?

Do I have any recourse here? Can I sue or what? I don't want these azzholes to get away with abusing my car which is obviously what they did.

I always have the service manager document the number of miles on my car when I leave it to be serviced. If this was not done, then it will be your word against theirs. If they value your business, the service manager should look into it and fire the **** bag who took it for a joy ride. Unfortunately, this is an all too common problem with cars like these. jeff is right. when you leave your car, you should either document the mileage somewhere or put a sticky note over the speedo with the mileage written on it so EVERYONE knows what you are implying, then be sure to tell them why you are doing it.

now, depending on what you had done, they may have had to do a test drive, but 50 miles seems too much. did they take your car to another bodyshop for some reason to repair the bumper?

i find the lawsuit comment interesting. i am interested on what grounds the suit would be based and what data is available to back up your claim?

If you have the $$ and time to really pursue this (aka lawsuit, etc) and make life a living hell for them..I say DO IT!! We gotta teach these a-holes that when they are working on our cars, its not playtime for them!

Don't they usually write the "mileage in" on the service ticket? I guess someone could lie but it's a place to start.

I believe they are required to write down mileage when yuo drop off your car.

Without making too much noise. Look at your receipt and see what they wrote down. They might have recorded what they did.
Then take the next step by going directly to the owner. Skip the other B.S. go to the top immediately.

Yeah, whenever I would drop off any car, miles are recorded to the tenth. If you have the before and after, I would raise hell. As for law suit? No lawyer here, but if no damage, or visible wear and tear, I doubt it, but I would still raise hell. Don't stop and don't give up till you get something worth something out of it.

Hey, just for the hell of it, check your rear wheel wells and see if there is any burnt rubber stuck to the inside. Plenty of that on mine, but I know I did it.

Check on the "off-site" body shop. That is a distinct possibility. The local Dodge dealer here is set up that way. Take a car in for touch-up paint and get it back 30 miles later. The clutch smell...weeeeell that is another issue. Any undue rubber under the car from spinning/burn outs?

I dunno about Texas, but in DE once you hand over the car
to a dealership you are allowing them to test the car as
they see fit. One of the reasons I never leave any of my
cars overnight at a service station.

If you have taken the car back (which it sounds like you
may have) then you have lost any chance of filing a suit -
you'll never be able to prove you didn't damage the car
yourself after picking it up.

I thought in the states that anyone could sue anyone cause you don't have to pay your lawyer unless you win for the most part.. That's why there is so many lawsuits down in the states.

At the last Dodge dealer I had a car serviced at (it was my 1991 Stealth R/T), not only did one of their lot-boys take it joy riding, but they actually ran the car off the road, cracked up the lower front facia and packed about 10 pounds of sod up into my radiator (effectively destroying the radiator). Did they fix it? Nope. The guy brought the car back to the dealership and parked it with the nose about 4 inches from the back of a van so that I couldn't see the damage. A friend noticed the damage about 30 minutes after I picked up the car. The service manager (fearing for her life I suspect) gave me the name of their "body guy" to take the car to for repair. He ended up giving ME the quote for the repair of the radiator (the dealer was only offering to repair the facia). I got a lawyer, who contacted me several days later and said that upon speaking with the service manager, the manager said that she could produce 6 witnesses who would testify that the car was in perfect condition when I drove it off the lot. I've never been so ********** in my life. I was a young PFC Private First Class in the Army then and didn't have the financial resources to "fight the man." If you have the means, I say inconvenience those b@stards as much as humanly possible for effing with your very valuable sports car. He!!, I'll kick in $25 for the legal fees.

Not really. Just make it sound more attorney-like.

Plaintiff is suing on the grounds of dealer malfeasance and permanent destruction of consumer faith.

Jimster, go schedule a few sessions with a shrink and save the bill for evidence of your permanently destroyed faith in dealers.

huffines anywhere *****. When I was in the market for my '98 I tried doing an honest deal with them and they wouldn't document it because they wanted to rip me off later...bunch of scumballs. I bought elsewhere and went back to huffines and waved to the **** sales manager. Sue their asp off! Good luck!

Happened to me and i'm good friends with the service manager.
They drove the car to a body shop somewhere and had fun along the
way. The body shop might have had some fun also.
They have and will get away with this one also, dirty bastages.

If the mileage had been documented by the dealer, I would attempt to bring suit for damage to property. I would immediatley have the car inspected and a written report drafted. I would have the clutch assembly dismantled and it searched for damage. Short of that I would pay an attorney to draft a threatening letter seeking compensation for the damages, i.e. accelerated wear on the clutch and tires. They may pay you something just to avoid the cost of defending the suit. If it was me I would cause them some serious grief, but then I can do it for free.

When I first bought my Viper, I took it to Ralph's Dodge in Prince Fredrick Maryland, for some mechanical work.

One of their lot guys backed the overhang of a flatbed truck over the hood and put a big gouge in it.
Instead of acting properly, they gave me a load of crap about how my car was old and didn't have nice paint and how they were only responsible for painting the hood.
New paint on the hood would have looked like crap with old paint on the remainder of the car. I had to come to an agreement with them to pay $1k to get the whole car painted.
If I had taken them to court, it would have cost more than the deal they offered so I really had no choice.
I did get a very nice paint job out of it.
But they acted like total a holes and I would never take my car to them again.

Can you imagine messing up a Viper and then being a dick about fixing it?

but again, before we jump to any incorrect conclusions or start filing lawsuits, i would find out WHY there are "##" more miles are on that car.

even Roanoke Motors doesnt have a bodyshop, and they send their cars to an outside source for their bodywork.

if the dealership drove your car to a bodyshop just 20 / 25 miles away, there is your 50 miles and you could be getting all bent out of shape for nothing.

if you do find out that it was a joy ride, then go ahead and beat them silly.
