Those ***** slapped Z06's better think again!!

You know, I'd rather be whipping on some euro cars but I always seem to run into C6Z06's, thinking they can whip a Viper. First I beat one with my '06 Viper(and walloped another one a year later), then I clobbered one with my '68 vette (not even a fair race there) and now I am looking to lay pipe in one of those hogs with my GTS. Recently, I put in a Corsa exhaust and replaced the cats with "cherry bomb" resonators. The GTS was already more responsive than my SRT and now feels like it is even more so, as though it picked up some 50hp.

What all do you have done to your 06? Because if it is stock or close to stock, I can promise you that the C6ZO6's that you have been running into have horrible drivers. I'm not taking anything away from the Viper..I own one LOLOL. But I have seen plenty of races with stock Gen III's and stock C6ZO6's, and the Z walks them pretty bad..like a 50-150 the Z walks by about 2-3 cars. Again, I'm not taking anyting away from the Viper, but a C6ZO6 is faster than any generation Viper except the IV gen, plain and simple.

Call bs all you want. First of all, my GTS was faster than my SRT in the low end when it was stock and I feel it would beat an SRT in a 1/4 mile race. With the upgraded exhaust, I expect that the GTS will beat the SRT on the low end and have as much up top. My SRT pulls hard and beat both Z06's by about the same margin (1 car length or so). I expect the GTS to win by more than that at this point. My '68 vette flat ***** slapped a few C6Z06's but like I said, that is not a fair race since the 454 in my vette is putting out a sh1tload more power than a Z06. Those races were closer to 4 or 5 car length blowouts, with the Z06 owners left puzzled, angry and bellowing of NOS (which of course, is not the case).

A stock C6Z traps between 125-128 with a good driver...that is far and away more than a GTS and about 5 MPH more than a Gen III. Also, power to weight, aero, and powerband all heavily favor the Z. Being about to tach to over 7000 RPM's is nasty! Again, not doubting you or your cars, but a C6Z properly driven will ***** slap any Gen II or Gen III Viper. A Gen II will feel a little quicker down low because the Gen III's power is a bit more linear across the band.

If that's true it took them a long time to catch up (since 92), and it had to be a special version of the Vette to do it!!! I thought about buying a Vette, but one day on my way to work (13 miles or so) I saw at least 8 Vettes. No Vipers of course. That made up my mind. I think the nanny controls in the Vette help quite a lot from a dead stop. Remember, you have to buy the "Special" Vette to beat even a '90's Viper. You can't just go out and by a C5 or C6 and do it.

People keep telling me that the Z06 should beat my Vipers. It began 3 a$$ whippings ago and counting. In my opinion, the Z06 vs Gen 3 is a driver's race or can vary from car to car. For your information, 99VPRGTS, a GTS has a lower record for 1/4 mile ET than a Gen 3. Don't kid yourself; a strong running GTS has the edge over a Gen 3 due to the fact that it pulls much better on low end and climbs up the powerband with less hesitation. The Z06 has better gearing, lower weight, equal hp and about 50lbft less torque than a Gen 3. It should win if the gearing on the Viper has not been changed. A Gen3 with 3:55 gears should be able to beat the Z06 and my Viper has eaten two of them. I attribute this to those factors that come into play when two cars are this close. You are calling blowout and I seriously doubt it. Those two Z06 owners found out the hard way that the real world can offer some surprises that often wound the ego.

I expect my GTS with the free flowing exhaust to unload some serious beatings upon the Z06's of the world. No, it is not a turbo Viper but then again, it doesn't blow up transmissions on a monthly basis, either.

Yea, and it doesn't have that fugly pieced together rear end that the Vette does. That's one dumb looking tail...

I guess after copying the Viper front end, headlights, hood scoop, door indentations (or whatever they are called), the designers at GM must have thought: "Gee, we better not copy the Viper rear end too or we might have a lawsuit...???"

If you only have exhaust on your Gen 2, and you run into a decent driver in a C6Z, you will lose. If he missed a shift or cannot drive, you have a chance. The C6Z's are strong cars.

The "nanny" controls you speak of will actually hurt the performance of the Vettes.

The C6 Z06s I've seen at the track are trapping 127mph, stock. Some ran a faster ET and some slower than mine, but all of them trapped several mph higher. My 97 GTS trapped 123mph, and has the usual bolt-ons with a tune.

As already mentioned, driver plays a big part in these cars, whether it's a Viper, Vette, or mini-van.....

Exactly correct as Jamie Furman holds practically EVERY record there is for stock cars with stock tires.His Gen2 totally stock has run 11.5 while his Z06 has run 10.8-10.9s totally stock .He also has run 10.8-10.9s in his Gen 4.So basically the times of a stock Gen 2 against a stock Z06 are not even in the same ballpark.

Hey, good driving. I have a Gen I and take it to the Iowaspeedway 1/8 mile drag. The local chevy dealer says they have a stock vette, but everyone says that it has had done work to it. It is the speedways show car given to them. I beat it 2 out of three times with their professional driver. I missed a gear when I lost, we were bumper to bumper but I came out front. They had the new camaro there this year. My friends charger, the chrysler, mustang all kicked its butt. Not impressive. So maybe your just good at driving.

That makes a huge difference when you can stay in gear for that long!

The Viper has owned the Vette every year except 2006 and 2007 (of course, there was no Viper in 2007 LOL). But for those two years, that was the fastest of the two. Even the Viper owners agree!

Yes you are completely right about it being a drivers race. In your cases, they couldn't drive the car properly and you then were able to beat them down. But I would bet a large some of $$ that if you ran a C6Z with a good driver and all your 06 has is a catback, you would lose.

Trust me on this one ANY STOCK GEN 1 ever made driven by whoever you choose against Jamie Furman in a new Z06 will lose by over 2 seconds (20 car lengths in the quarter ) Yor comparing a very high 12 second car with a very high 10 second car .My old Gts did well in organized competition the car made 575 to the tire on engine alone driven by the best of the best ran 11.2 at 132 on stock tires .MANY A BONE STOCK z06 ON STOCK TIRES BEATS THAT TIME. THE RECORDS FOR THESE CARS ARE POSTED ON THE INTERNET =look them up.A Gen 4 Viper and a Z06 are damn near even to try to compare these times with a Gen 1 is crazy

Very true .I have owned every Gen of Viper (some of my cars were used as test benchmarks for mags like MUSCLE MUSTANG AND FAST FORD )no Viper but a Gen 4 can come anywhere near handling a Z06 in a drag race driver for driver .Even with a Gen 4 its a drivers race.Furman or Evan Smith in the Vette are going to clean house against 99% of the guys out there in a Gen 4 .

Its all driver in a drag race as well .Furman for example runs 10s in a Gen 4 Viper while most good drivers cant break mid 11s HUGH difference.

The fastest NA Viper is still a gen 2. No gen 3 or 4, or even a C6Z06 has even come close to Norman's times. You can find it all right here.

Ha ha, I am getting a chuckle out of this having just left the C6 Z06 forum about a month ago when I sold mine. Now I have a Viper and the forum changes it's tune!

Lots of fun! I liked the Z06 but this RT is more fun in the twisties! As to acceleration ... with the TC and AH turned off the vette had a little more, (stock to stock).

They really are.Since the best times EVER ran by a Z06 and Gen 4 (owned by the same driver and driven at the same track )are within a quarter of a tenth apart what the poster is really sayng is a Gen 2 with bolt on exhaust can b*thch slap a Gen 4 as well.Man thats too funny.

You guys are talking about stock Vipers vs. "SPECIALLY" made Vettes. Compare the stock Viper with a stock C6 Vette. That's the one you see going down the road and most people own. All stock Vipers are Vipers (except in th extreme case of the ACR). Vettes have 3 levels of performance. The Viper beats the C6 Vette and all other "C's" before it. Once they make ALL Vettes the same this conversation is not relevant. Until then, you are talking about a highly modified Vette "The Z06" (factory modified on purpose) vs. a stock Viper. Not the same. If you want to compare those, do the same modifications to the Viper that they did the Z06 and see who comes out ahead. Case closed.

There is always a car faster than yours out there, one day your gonna meet and get beat. Just enjoy the viper and keep putting those notches on your belt. Its the meanest most bad a$$ car ever made.
