Those of you running 20's with Michelins! Advice needed!

Gotta get new tires come spring and have been wanting to get Michelins, but have heard they can rub on some cars on the shock areas.

Anywho, just wanted to know how many folks have rubbing issues on the rear with their 20's and Michelins.

If rubbing will be an issue I will go with Pirelli's again, but would preffer not to. The car will not see alot of track use, so it probably will not matter much for tire compound, but have heard the Michelins are better even for street use.

Anyone have any advice/thoughts?

I have a friend with some nice 22" chrome wheels he was trying to get me to buy. They are a copy design of the Charger SRT wheels I think, beautiful 5 spokes. If only they would fit my Saturn

Got the first step done last night, but no road test yet. Still hiding from the cops.

I did this per the recommendation of Dan at Viper Specialty Performance. Made them on the drill press out of 1/2" thick HDPE. For the rears only.

Dave - Are those just to be stop bumpers? Am I gathering correctly that your rubbing issue is on the bumps only (on the compression) and not while just rolling?

What about on an ACR I wonder... I should not have that issue but if I do I can make the ride a little firmer...

Yes those are to move the bump stop down. And yes the rubbing is on semi-major bumps only. I have 3 fingers clearance so normal driving is not a problem. If you have a more aggressive spring on the rear or can control (adjust) compression then you may be OK.

Mopar Boy - don't know about the tires, but you have an awesome looking yellow ACR in the photo! I've ordered an all yellow 09 ACR and I may do some after market striping. The wheels and tires on your Viper make a statement.

Dave - I have not touched my suspension before, but I believe the ACR has a VERY hard rear spring to begin with, and I do also believe I can adjust it to be much harder if need be. Only concern would be it may not handle as well with a rock hard setting.

Put a zip tie on your shock shaft and go hit some big bumps. See how high up the zip tie gets pushed toward the bump stop.

Mine occasionally rub on the fenderwell when braking while going in reverse but that is it. No rubbing on shocks for me. 335/30-20

That's why you have no rub then. I have the 335/30's. Which is hopefully not similar to any Corvette part

The 25 series is an LL which means Light Load. Perfect for a Corvette

Anyway, I road tested the shock bump stop shims yesterday at a club meet where no one exceeded the posted speed limit and I still have the rub. My next step is to clearance the fender lip. You can see the rub - it's only about an 1/8 of an inch. And with Super Dave fabrication skills the only people to know besides me will be the short little Girl Scouts that approach my car all the time inspecting the wheel wells.

The 25 series will still work for the Viper. Main problem is price... They just started making the tire exclusively for the ZR1, so anybody who wants to buy those tires will have to pay an arm and a leg for them..

Spoke with Tire Rack today just to get some info. They say the Vette 335/25 tires are Runcraps.

Guess I do not want those now do I?

You won't rub anywhere with the 20s and the Michelins except in the front wheel well when you turn hard when you are slow speed maneuvering (parking).
