If im Buying 19's with pirellis (sp?) These are NON_RUNFLATS ! What do I do about the low-press warning noise and light? Is there a way to disable the code? Thanks

I bet you can turn off the noise. You can turn off the seat belt noise. There has to be a way to turn off the tire pressure noise.

I would think with non-run flats, you would want the sensors even more! Nothing worse than destroying a rim due to a flat.

Can't the sensors from the original wheels be moved to the new ones??

They can, but breaking down the tires and rebalancing them would probaly cost damn near as much as the sensors.

Buy new sensors and have them installed with the new tires / wheels.

Who sells sensors?

How much are they, and are they difficult to install?

Anyone put sensors on the SSR Comp H wheels?

I just purchased SSR Track Wheels and Pilot Cups from Jon@PartsRack. He said that the new sensors would have to be reprogrammed by the dealer evertime you swap the wheels. Jon said that the dealer can disable the code with a DRB (whatever that is). He also said that a reset of the pcm or reconnecting the battery will bring back the warning. I wish I would have known about this before I ordered this setup.

Anyone know if there's a fuse or something that will disable the sensors permanently???????

Just to be clear:

When you switch wheels, (that don't have sensors in them) what happens?

A warning light turns on, and a warning chime chimes.

How long does the chime go for?

Does it ever turn off?

I also purchased new track wheels and tires. I'm going to be unhappy if I have to make a trip to the dealer every time I switch wheels.

Not sure. If there are no sensors, what would send the signal to set off the system?

As far as the chime, it makes a sound for a short time with a low tire and chimes constantly when you have a flat, along with muting the radio.

From my understanding...the sensors work off of magnets...If there are no sensors, it sets off the chime'n alarm...and will drive ya crazy! John B told me to buy the sensors to avoid this...

This makes no sense.

There are folks out there (Skip, are you listening) who regularly change their wheels for drag racing and the like.

What are they doing?

Are they really visiting their dealer every time they change their wheels?

By the way, I just called my dealer. They said that they couldn't re-program the computer to eliminate either the light or the warning alarm, and that there was no way to eliminate the light and alarm if you use anything other than stock wheels. (so much for "five star" service.)

OPTIONS:

There are 3 options. Long ago I decided NOT to spill my guts here anymore because I just end up teaching my competition. I welcome your calls.

Simple answer:
Have a Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler Dealer or Viper Days Tech/Vendors TURN IT OFF with a DRB. (Must be turned back on when/if you restore run-flat sensors/tires.

Unfortunately, Removing the chime is not an option, and removing a fuse may casue other problems.

AAAAARRRGGGHHH!

Why would they design the runflat chime to go forever if you're supposed to be able to drive 50 miles on the flat tire? I'd go crazy after one mile, I think.

This doesn't help, as what I want is to be able to easily switch between the two sets of wheels.

I use my regular stock wheels and runflat tires for driving around.

I have a 2nd set of SSR wheels and Pilot Sport Cups that I bought to use for track days.

So, I need the sensor disabled when I'm running my track wheels/tires, but I need the sensor working when I'm running the stock wheels/tires.

I'd like to be able to change back and forth between stock wheels and track wheels without visiting the Dodge dealer and paying them $75 and hour to mess with my car.

Would putting another sensor on the track wheels solve my problem? Would a sensor work with a non-runflat tire and SSR wheel? Would I still have to go to the dealer to get something re-set whenever I changed wheels?

Is there anyone reading this thread who has figured out a way to actually changes back and forth between wheels without visiting their dealer?

Again AAARRRGGHH!

My dealer said they could disable the sensors with the DRB, so I just took it in. 1 1/2 hours later and after several sensor relearns (stock tires), they came out and said they can't find out where to make the change in the 2005 software. The shop foreman doesn't believe they can disable it anymore.

Any other solutions???

Sounds like we need to go to a "higher power." What's the e-mail address for the guy at Dodge that answers technical questions in the Viper magazine column?

I have 2 sets of wheels. I put sensors on the other set of wheels too. $39 each sensor (Dodge dealer), I change the wheels back and forth no problem. Jon also told me they would have to be reprogrammed by the dealer, but they don’t.

You do have to be careful not to break the sensors when mounting though, trust me on that one.

This sounds promising.

What tires and wheels are you using?

Did you mount the sensors on the wheels yourself? Is it hard? Easy? Where are the sensors located?

Thanks

I have HRE’s 542 with Pilot Sport Cups. The sensor is in the valve stem, they are very easy to install. I have a tire changer but it can’t handle low profiles wheels so I had a local tire shop do the mounting and balancing. Anyway, it’s not a big deal, just $$ to get the wheels broken down and remounted.

hmm...when i put the sensors into my new wheels and tires...i didn't have to program them or anything...i started up my car and everything was perfect. maybe you can just install new sensors in the tires and wheneve ryou swap it will just give you the readings on the new tire/wheel you put on.

Kai, I sell the Smart Tire system. It's the best you can get. I wouldn't dream of running a car without it. It measures tire temp and pressure. No interference with the oem system, as it operates on a totaly different freq.

The complete system with a remote display, is around $250.00 very easy to install.

If you are running non-runflats, this is a must, as you will not know if you have a low tire, or a tire on it's way down till it blows the sidewall out. This nearly wrecked me one late night.

It gives great peace of mind to know what your tire pressure is at any moment, and have a warning system that goes off if the tire falls below a preset pressure.

You can't even give a visual to the tires before taking off. 10lbs, looks the same as 30lbs, and the car really drives somewhat ok.

Let me know if you want this system. I can get it out to you right away.

This sounds like a good idea.

But it only makes sense if you can turn the OEM system off. If you can't get rid of the OEM alarm, it doesn't solve the problem. I have to find out for sure if I can turn off the OEM alarm before I consider the Smart Tire system.

Can you program the Smart Tire system so that it won't go off at low tire pressure? For example, if I'm running drag radials at 17 psi, can I program the Smart Tire system so that it won't alarm until 12 psi? Similarly, can I adjust the alarm levels upward for track tires?

P.S. How much are extra sensors? I would need 6 extra sensors; 4 for my track wheels and 2 for drag wheels.

Kai, the complete system sells for around $250.00 and the pressure alarm system is totaly variable.

Funny thing is I never had an audible alarm on the oem system, and it seems a good audio sound man can disable the oem system easily.

You will like the temp sensors in the system. It is very accuarate, and very important when running low pressures.

So how much for 6 extra sensors?
