Like a good VCA Member, I have researched this issue via the search feature but thought it might be fun to take a poll. As a fellow-yellow Viper owner, I do not want to intimidate the other-color Vipers any more than I have to. So guys, should I do it?

Did it a few weeks ago. Love it. My wife did notice the car sounded a bit different afterwards. Told her it must be loosening up. She drives it once per week and seems to like the new sound. Has a nice sound when you back off the gas but not brutal at idle or when cruising in 6th.

My yellow brother,
i had my muffler deleted before i even took delivery of the car.
And i just sold my subexhaust (muffler delete) to nice VCA member in CA.
I upgraded to Random Tech high flow cats, and B&B catback

you will love the delete over stock but like any mod after a while you will want more
and go for a catback.

did you paint anything yellow yet?
Call you local DC parts dept and order 01 viper yellow in convenient spray cans.

This man speaks the truth. I feel myself leaning toward the "delete" option. Any non-deleters out there care to chime in?

Gary,
how is the budget?
I just got a sweet deal from Mike Adams in Canada on randomtech substates (best) cats
and B&B catback.
Might save the delete step and go straight to catback.
In the end the cost is about $1k more than a snakeoly subexhaust.
just a yellow idea.
remember your now 1 of 356.

My 96 GTS has the muffler delete and I love it...I want it louder though. It does give a nice pop and spit around 1800 RPM when slowing...nice!

Did the muffler delete about a month ago here (sub assembly from Snaky Oyl).

Bit deeper, bit louder. I'd say like 35%-40% louder and a touch deeper. Not a massive drastic change. Very nice and much better.

Slight rattle in the dash now at precisely 2130rpm or something - a buzz you hear just a few times per drive at most, if ever.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Gotta love the weight savings alone too.

Well I'll confirm you this.....

hopefully get around to doing a full post on this soon, but that rear **** is restrictive as hell, drop it, or change it, do something just don't keep it there if you want power.

pulled 421 stock, added high flow cats and 98+ headers, leaving the OEM rear **** in place. New pull 418, not good.

my theory other than my car is a piece, is the increased flow is hitting the OEM **** and shooting even more airflow back towards the engine, hurting power moreso than stock. Hence my assumption that it is restrictive, I'll dissect mine and take some pics when I drop that thing, sooner the better.

my theory was to isolate the gain of rear **** delete one step at a time, this confirms that airflow gains (intake, exhaust) is not something to be toyed with one step of the chain at a time, much akin to the funnel analogy.

now if my 418 will jump to something more respectable when the **** goes, like say 20 or more is the question.....

Might have to concede my Blue car is the most power banter if something doesn't happen here!

Sir Yellow,

Thanks for the suggestion, however, I think I will have to pass (for now) on the cat-back option. The purpose of the muffler delete was to save money and sound as if I had opted for the complete system. Good idea, however, and I will keep it in mind.

The OEM muffler inside has two louvered pipes straight through with fiberglass packing. Here's an option. If you want the stock look but more sound, it's possible to remove the muffler assy, cut the top of the muffler, replace the two louvered pipes inside with straight ones (2-1/2") and re-weld the top back on. Be sure to tape some plastic sheeting on your rear bumper so the tips won't scratch em while removing/installing.

I heard REDSLED's GTS w/ the muffler delete and the cars sounds great at idle and revs. For the money, you can't go wrong. You can always go to a catback if the sound is not for you. Good luck either way.

Thanks for all the replies. It is official ... the muffler on the Yellow Beast shall be deleted at once. Any suggestions as to who should do it? From previous posts, I understand that some folks had a muffler or brake shop do the deed. Also, should I go with the H-crossover to prevent the drone? Thanks. You guys are cool.

I really don't have any drone, but then again I like my cars rather loud.

FYI I cruise at 2K in whatever gear I'm in - I don't really get any buzz at that range. A touch north of that but nothing worth mentioning.

But I have heard the h pipe will help cut down on it.
