TO STRIPE OR NOT...THAT IS THE ?

I am considering striping my red GTS, however, I can't make up my mind and would appreciate any and all thoughts and opinions either way including your recommended color if you're for stripes. Thanks in advance for your input.

BTW, I tried a search on "stripes" and got 200 topics and not one of them contained the words stripe or stripes and were all different types of subjects. I've done searches before and they have worked. Very strange....thought you might want to check it out.

I would do the stripes in either white or black. Both really set the red paint off.

You might want to consider vinyl stripes, easy to put on, if you dont like it, get damage or want to change stripe colors, its not that big of a deal.

Gerald from Tampa, FL has white vinyl stipes that he really likes and say you cant tell the difference.

I was faced with the same dilemma when I bought my '01...but,like Gerald,I think stripes make a pretty bold statement on a GTS. I got mine done at Huffines(paint)and they really did a great job. If you decide to add them be sure and post some pics.

Most people go with silver or white. Both look great. I wonder what it would look like with a darker or lighter shade of red.

I think that stripes really set the car off well (not that it is subtle without them) but it does depend on the color of the car, and your personal tastes.

For red I'd pick silver first, then white. But I like both.
In bright sunlight the silver actually looks white, but in darker lighting it stands out differently with the bright metallic sheen.

I have an additional stripe question -- I am about to paint my '98 GTS red with silver stripes.

Should I paint the '98 stripe (narrower) or the wider '96-97 stripe?? I am currently leaning towards the wider stripe.

I did 8",4", 8" which I think is a slightly narrower gap than stock, but I like the look.

Thanks very much to all of you that have responded. I really appreciate your thoughts on this and the pictures. So far, everyone is for stripes. Obviously, I'm leaning that way or I wouldn't have brought this question up. Still have not made the decision, however, I am researching and met with Eric at DeFratus in Dallas today to look at vinyl stripe samples and discuss installation, vinyl durability, cost, etc.. If I do it I will probably go with the vinyl since they can be removed later or I can change colors plus they cost less and can be done in about 2-3 days. I'm leaning toward black stripes ( sorry Tony ) at this point for a more sinister look and to be different from the stock silver and final edition white ( no flames intended...they all look great ). Anyone else care to comment? Anyone for no stripes?

As an RT guy, I must admit I am a bit jealous of how sinister the GTS looks...is your paint stock? Perhaps darker silver, somewhere between the silver and the steel grey would set it off...

A GTS looks much better WITH stripes.
The white stripes will look better than silver IMHO. See final edition pictures.

I have had vinyl stripes on my GTS for a year now.
The stripes on the nose have some nicks and small holes now.
Probably so small that no one can notice them except me.
The rest of the stripes on the car are still perfect.
The stripes are not as tough as paint. They are also very, very
difficult to replace a section. It was very difficult to put the stripes on originally. I only put on vinyl to see how yellow would look to match my wheels.
I didn't want to have stripes painted just to see that the car looked terrible.

Bottom line, since you are dealing with color choices that will
look great, make the change permanently and have them painted.
Do not be swayed towards vinyl for the cost. My stripes cost a total of $50.00.
