Thats right my top blew off I might have been driving too fast. I need the soft top frame for a 99 RT10.The original frame was destroyed once it hit the highway.

Wow, used to hear about this happening, but hadn't heard anyone having that problem in quite some time. It's really important to be sure all your latches (especially the front ones) are properly seated as well as properly adjusted to hold well.

How fast were you going? Look on ebay, there is two on there now and they pop up there regularly.

If you take it above 80 you are risking loosing it big time...
Quite a few of them have flown off, you were lucky it did not land/beat the rear trunklid.

No not in a vette they have both been sold.I was cruising about 70 so that makes sense. And yes I am very glad it did not beat the car up but it did scare the Hell out of my pregnant wife her expression on her face and what she said almost made me laugh "It was not my fault "

Sorry to hear that. I was able to repair mine but the damage was only to one side. One of the swing arms broke off. I used industrial epoxy and put it back together. No issues. If it's not fixable (assuming its in many pieces) then try ViperPartsLarry.com or ebay. I don't supposed you have any pics of the damage?

If the latches are bad, misaligned, or not properly seated, maybe, but I've driven with 3 different soft tops at 150+ and had no rapid deployments, but did have quite a large amount of air rushing in from between the top and the windshield frame!

The early RTs were notorious for doing that but I thought that Chrysler fixed it. I guess not.

I had the same thing happen last month. Check with your insurance company on replacing it. I had a $100 comprehensive deductible and they gave me more than enough to replace it with a brand new OEM top ($4300 from Mopar, $3400-ish from Jon B).

I rarely used mine but kept it in the trunk in case I ran across a freak rainstorm. I'll upgrade to a 3-piece or an Autoform eventually, but for now the soft top will protect me from the elements and the sun (at low speeds).

What you mean is drivers of early cars were notorious for not attaching them correctly. Been over 170 with mine and no problems beyond the loose cloth flapping that happens with an older top. I did have the rear lift up on me one time because I forgot to latch the rears.

having teh windows in makes a difference as well for the speed rating. without windows the top will come off sooner. Vmania windows vs. the soft windows...all factors.

Somebody lost a red top off of their car on the way home tonight. I cruising along with the traffic about 70-75 and about a 1/4 mile ahead of me a red panel became airborne. I didn't actually see the car it came off of but the top went about 100ft up before it started down. Everybody was ******* the brakes but luckily it landed 2 lanes over and not in or on somebodys car. Couldn't tell what kinda of car it was from...
