Tommy Archer qualified the 3-R Racing Competition Coupe in 5th place and everyone had a good run except Mike McCann, who lost his driveline on the first lap out. John Young ( Saleen SR ) qualified in 7th, but a later report showed he was underweight, and hence everyone should move up one. Mike McCann will start at the back, also, but he will be ready for the race tommorrow, sources report. The race will be late Friday ( 4:40 EST ) , but rebroadcast at 1( EST ) on Sunday , courtesy of Speed Channel.

other Comp Coupes and their starting spots for tommorrow's race are:

9th Peter Tonelli - Westboro Dodge
10th Bob Woodhouse - Woodhouse Auto Family

The top ten starters get to run with their headlights on.

12th Tim Wiens - 1st Interstate Inns
14th Lenny Diller - Kin Cole Audio Visual
16th Stan Wilson - Carbotech
17th Jim McCann - McCann Plastics
21st Adel Elsayed - Brisar Delvco
23rd Kenny Hawkins - Kenny Hawkins Dodge

Mike McCann will start towards the back, but as other cars had concerns and John Young was underweight, I do not know exactly what spot he will end up in.
32 cars went out to qualify, so it will be a large field for the 50 minute race.

3R-Racing Qualifies 5th, 6th and 13th for Sebring

Sebring, Florida -- Under sunny skies and a temperature of 82-degrees, 3R-Racing drivers Phil McClure, Tommy Archer and Tim Wiens qualified fifth, sixth and thirteenth respectively at Sebring today for the first round of the SCCA Speed World Challenge Speed GT series race to be run on Friday.

Phil McCLure, driving the number 73 Aggregate Industries/Corvette Z06, was able to run a 2:11.050 with an average speed of ? mph to start in the fifth position for tomorrow's race. "I qualified right where I figured I would be in fifth. It is just a surprise which cars are in front of me," said McClure. "My car had a push and we adjusted on it a little but weren't able to go any faster. I can see the front from where I am starting, so I plan to hang in there and take advantage of every opportunity."

3R-Racing teammate Tommy Archer in the number 22 3R-Racing/c3controls/Viper will start tomorrow's race from sixth after racing to a qualifying time of 2:11.503. "We poured the coals to the Viper and that was all we had for them today," commented Archer. "With the competition so fast, we have been working on setting up the car to be consistent over the race distance. I am looking forward to doing my first standing start and putting the Viper on the podium tomorrow."

Tim Wiens, driving the number 33 3R-Racing/1st Interstate Inns/Viper, posted a time of 2:13.962 to start in thirteenth. "The car was very consistent throughout the run. I am still getting used to the Viper and it is quite different from the Porsche I drove last year," said Wiens. "I am looking forward to running a clean race and maintaining my record of finishing several places ahead of where I qualified."

The green flag will drop for the Speed GT race on Friday, March 19 at 4:35 p.m. for a 50-minute sprint around Sebring. The race will be televised on Speed TV, Sunday, March 21 at 12:00 noon.

Four Vipers in the Top Ten!

Immediate Release
March 19, 2004

3R-Racing Finishes 4th, 5th and 10th at Sebring

Sebring, Florida -- 3R-Racing was able to put all three cars in the top-ten for the first round of the SCCA Speed World Challenge Speed GT series race today at Sebring.

Under sunny skies and a temperature of 85-degrees the 3R-driving trio looked very strong in the season's first event. Bob Raub and the crew did an excellent job with a complete car transition from 2003. The 3R-Racing team prepared two new Vipers and built a new Corvette for 2004, making the finishes today an excellent reward for a long winter of work for the Colorado based operation.

Tommy Archer, driving the number 22 3R-Racing/c3controls/Viper, was able to get a great start from his sixth place qualifying position to move up to third place. "It was my first standing start and it was great! The power of the Viper just launches you down the straight," said Archer. "The Cadillac was parked so I had to maneuver around and that cost me a couple of tenths. We made a change to the car this morning and it handled better in the race that it did all week. I was able to run 12-flat for the race, we need to put the Viper on a diet to be able to move forward."

Number 73 Aggregate Industries/Corvette Z06 driver, Phil McCLure, also was able to get a good start, following Archer up through to run in fourth. "I settled into a nice pace, was able to get around Tommy and I could push Galati," said McCLure. "I had a plan to get around him on the last lap, but then into turn 17 on lap 17, I developed a fuel pickup problem, which progressively got worse. I was doing all I could to hold my fifth place."

Tim Wiens, 33 3R-Racing/1st Interstate Inns/Viper, raced to tenth from his thirteenth place qualifying effort. "The Cadillac was parked in the center of the track so that shuffled the order a little on the first lap. It was my first standing start in the Viper and it really gets off the line," said Wiens. "I was in a good battle with the cars around me, I was focused on the other Viper ahead of me but just ran our laps before I could catch him. I wanted to run consistent laps and finish in the top ten. The 3R crew did an excellent job all weekend."

The race will be televised on Speed TV, Sunday, March 21 at 12:00 noon.
