Toyo RA 1 \'s in Viper sizes

The DOT legal RA 1 Toyo's will be available in Viper sizes, see press release quote below. this is good news for double duty cars as the RA !'s unshaved have excellent wet weather handling as well as wear & traction. Not Hoosier quality of grip, but an alternative to Khumo, with much better wet weather traction. I have been using as rain tires on my race car since 1996.

Boy, this is cool news, as I have been running these on my other race car, and they wear like iron. They aren't quite as quick as Hoosiers, but they are spot on to Kumhos. The thing I like the best is when they are down to no tread , they still have 2/32nds left. This tire stays consistent for a full track session, and it doesn't seem to get greasy like the Kumho or the Hoosier. Price is $275 for 275/18's and $335 for 335.18's,and that includes shaving and shipping. Bob supplies tires for the World Challenge, and has shaved over 400,000 tires. Great guy who takes care of Racers, and there will be a small price break if you don't want said tires shaved --- you will have to ask , as he shaves everything.

Nope, just 18's . This is what the drivers will be using for World Challenge ( Vipers, Vettes,Mustangs, Porsches , Audis) Series, so the sizes are limited. The good thing is that there are some choices for the guys with 18's, as there have been more options with 17's of late. We have some take off 18 inch rims if anyone wants a set at a reasonable price.

How would these tires do as a street substitute for Pilots? Would they hook better in a straight line for higher hp applications? How much faster would they wear than Pilots? I'm assuming you would have to be more careful in the rain if you ran them shaved.

unshaven, I would say that the wear would be comprable, In my experiance, they wear like a street tire. I have raced them since 1996 & I use them unshaved as a full rain tire, or intermediate tire,( I run the hoosier dirt stockers in heavy rain), Unlike the Hoosier rains, the Toyo's will not chunk under drying conditions.As for ultimate track use, an shaved tire will always outlast an unshaved tire. depending on how much they shave, shaving it is NOT good for wet weather driving

I believe the Tread Wear rating is 40 (if I remember correctly from SEMA).

Those ladies at the Toyo booth is kinda distracting.

SoCal - If they wear on a Viper, like they do on other cars,figure an extra weekend of usage. They wear very well, and as stated before, there is still tread left when there are no lines - unlike alot of other tires. Give me a call and I will be happy to discuss my success with Toyos.

Just curious if anyone has experience with the Toyo's on the street? Specificaly on how the stone/rock situation is like? Any problems with paint chips?

How are they on the street? How many miles can you expect them to last (no rain driving)? Do they grip like Khumo's for big HP applications (ie - 600RWHP). As above, do they sandblast any paint?

As bought, the tread depth is very good for street/wet coditions. Shaving reduces the tread depth, eliminating tread squirm under track conditions, resulting in higher grip, cooler temps &amp; loner life under racing conditions. Many people, even experianced racers, have the misconception that reducing the tread depth shortens the life of the tire. This is not true. For street use &amp; occasional track use , leave them alone. For the seriouse track ******, shave them.

If they shave them on the rim it will "true" the roundness and actaully increases tread life!
