I took a class at Ron Fellows and the rest was history. Now I'm hooked on tracking. I didn't know what hit me. Now I track every chance I get. Here's the cool thing- Vipers own the road course. They are fast in a straight line, yes. But on a road course they are in their element. An absolute dream to drive on the track. Plus you don't have to worry about getting busted or worse, hurting someone unintentionally. You can drive the wheels off it all day long, it's the most fun you can have with your clothes on, lol

completely agree. Car is in its element on the track. The one problem is it has exposed how boring driving one of these on the street is after you have experienced the track. That is why I must always laugh when I see folks wanting more HP. On the track, where skill is required, it is not lacking HP. In my opinion, to get to its limit (or more importantly the driver limit), is simply too dangerous and not wise on the street. I always suggest someone that gets their thrills racing on the street or the drag strip, raising up a notch and do some track days. Most will never go back.

I wish you tracked your GTR as well, along with the straightline stuff. It would have been nice to hear of the differences between the two in terms of handling and lap times. I love them both for what they each represent on the automotive spectrum. The Viper is it's antithesis and as such a comparison between the two from that standpoint would be a great write up. I think the Viper is hands down the looker of the two stock to stock although dressed up either one is a great looking machine.

I think you will be disappointed with the lack of modability with the Viper and you will get tired of that 640hp if its just used for street/1/4 mile racing especially since you had a modded Godzilla that was already much faster in a straightline. Hope you give SRT/Aftermarket just a bit more time to get out some go-fast stuff in case you wanna jump ship to get that mod fix a lot of us have. As mentioned tracking the car will add another dimension to your driving joy. I know when I autocrossed I loved it instantly more than the street racing/1/4 miling my friends and I were doing at the time. I do miss those days and wish I had the coin to persue real circuit racing. I can only imagine the adrenaline rush it would be to pilot a car like the Viper or GTR on a real roadcourse.

BMW-CCA High Performance Driver Education schools are a great way to get instruction with your car and on to road courses, they are extremely reasonably priced, and you don't need to own or drive a BMW. I've also done many Porsche HPDEs as some allow BMW-CCA members if their events if they aren't full in order to cover the cost of the event. Many other groups will rent local tracks, both small and large, some with and without instruction, and offer track access reasonably priced. One local track ran their own evening program years ago and offered 5 laps for $20, keeping each car spaced out from the one ahead for safety. I got hooked from that experience, then did some car control schools on smaller tracks before joining BMW and enjoying many of the iconic tracks in US and Canada. Many groups like Chin Motorsports book major tracks all over the US. Check out what's available locally to give it a try. Others are right when they say it's the most fun you can have, you'll improve your driving skills dramatically, satisfy your need for speed in a safe and legal way, and hopefully keep it responsible on the public roads.

But the best part is the hard-core performance enthusiasts you'll meet, and the life long friends you'll make, and the opportunity to see parts of the country you wouldn't have otherwise as you check off your list of race tracks you absolutely must drive!

Thank you guys for the info on tracking!!!! As far as modding the car I knew what I was getting into. Hopefully soon they can figure something out, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm happy with the car and love the looks of it. Is it as fast as my GTR, NO, but I will still enjoy it. Question for you guys, what mods are out there?? I was thinking of doing long tubes, full exhaust and intakes. Who has them? Also I have a feeling by removing the cats it would trigger a CEL. Is there away around it? I had some sensors that would trick the CEL when removing the cats back in the day with a C5 that I had. Is that something thats available for the viper? Thanks!

Long tubes and Corsa catback are a viable option today, but JackB posted a thread about when he removed his air filter his engine went into limp mode. I doubt the intake and especially the intake manifold can be tampered with yet. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

Congrats on the purchase. I've been toying around with an idea of trading in my cl63 and getting a white genV. I'm not ready to get rid of my freshly built gen 3 so two vipers in the garage would be a good solution. . Like your self I've been influenced by all the negative reviews. Looking forward to your posts.

Drove mine all day yesterday in the city in 40F weather, with my son talking buisness through traffic jams, potholes, detours, getting phone calls and text messages....almost forgot I was driving a Viper, but people taking pics all over the place kept reminding me of the car...when needed, it can also act as a good DD car !
