Trailer blows a tire!--but GTS makes it to Heffner\'s in one piece!
I am in Barcelona until mid May, so I had my Brother trailer my GTS to Heffner's in MD, from NW Indiana just over a week ago. I borrowed a fellow VCA member's enclosed trailer to haul the Snake behind my EXT. Should be easy, right?
NOPE! One of my Worst nightmares almost came true!
About 25 minutes into the trip, the trailer blows a tire and Jack-knives on the highway!
I can't imagine my Brother's heart rate when this happened! When it comes to a stop the Escalade is facing the wrong direction on the highway, with the trailer still attached but not directly behind the EXT! My brother had to drive a mile or so the wrong way, to get off the highway and assess the damage!
So what happened? Well, I feel very LUCKY! My Viper didn't budge! Not a scratch!
I thank Brian for tying it down so well in his trailer! He told me he tied it down so well that the trailer could flip on it's top and my car would still be planted perfectly upside down! But I am glad we didn't have to find out if it was tied down that tight!
Can't say the same about my Escalade.
The report I got from my brother was that the rear quarter panel is messed up, and the wheel is damaged also. My wife got home last night, her and my son were over here with me when it happened, she will send me pictures today of the damage! Of course, she thinks the damage is bad! But that truck is a tank, and I am not too worried about it! Hey, it went over 1200 miles roundtrip once the tire was replaced and my brother composed himself!
Brian told me that his trailer's damage was minimal, just some trim on the side and corner got messed up. I know we both feel bad about it, and feel fortunate it wasn't worse.
Well, I called my insurance agent right when I got the call from my brother. They said it would all be taken care of quickly and correctly. My wife will be taking care of that this week.
My Escalade will be repaired, trailer also, and nobody was hurt. We are very lucky, as it could have been much worse!
And most important............My GTS made it to Jason safely, and should be ready for me to pick up as soon as I get back HOME!!!
