Today I recieved a call and the transmission is broken, it is under warranty and it is on "National Back Order". The service advisor told me it would be a minimum of 3 weeks.

I placed a few calls to various dodge dealers. There are dealers with transmissions in stock....though it seems they don't want to let their transmissions go to another dealer.

Any ideas on how I can get these guys to get the transmission from another dealer?

Any bets as to how long it will truely take to get a new transmission back into the car?

this is starting to **** already.

Man that *****. How many miles do you have on it? Did you abuse it or did it just break under normal driving? Might as well have your crank bolt checked while it's sitting there. Good luck! BTW, I'm running a stock GTS transmission in my Venom which I shift at 5700 RPM on a regular basis with no problems to date. What is different on the SRT transmissions and differentials that keeps breaking with only 510 HP? I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ as I am considering possibly getting an '06 Coupe as a DD, however, the transmission, diff. and crank bolt issues are real concerns even with stock HP. Have they fixed these problems in the '06?

That bites man, what were the symptoms before it broke, were there any unusual noises or anything that didnt seem normal? What were you doing when it broke?

Yeah my buddy has a supercharged GTS that gets "DRIVEN" never had a problem with the trans.

I wouldn't say I abused it, I was shifting into 3rd from the top of 2nd gear at full throttle....there was a hint of wheel hop then CRACK!! nothing after that...just a lot of bad noises.

How about having your car towed to a dealer that has the tranny in stock??

They'll be more than welcome to install it for you and bill DC

Maybe get the service mgr. to call the other dealership's parts mgr and explain the circumstance. I cant believe parts dept's want to keep Viper trannies in stock. Seems like it'd be expensize dead inventory to me.

According to the parts locater, there aren't any dealers in the area with one in stock.

I got the numbers of 5 dealers that the locater showed had a transmission in stock - A dealer in Arizona said they are holding the transmission in case they have a customer that needs it. Another said the unit they showed in stock was sold yesterday. Three other dealers said they had their in stock unit "reserved".

I hit the VCA sponsor dealers next, I was only able to get through to Roanoke Dodge (called the others too late in the day)....anyway their unit was reserved too.

I called Dodge customer service this evening and explained my position. Hopefully I can get some results and they can persuade someone to transfer a transmission my way.

Sorry about your troubles- I am curious though how the service folks handle this extended repair thing- does your car have to sit at the dealer for 3 weeks? I would worry about it getting shuffled aro and mishandled, or do they tow it back home for you until the part comes in?

Kurtis,
Something does not sound right! Your Dealer needs to call the "STAR Center Hotline" to order this transmission and they should be able to pull one from another Dealer or one off the assemble line and get you out of trouble! Your Dealer has to make an extra effort to make that happen and help you back on the road soon, BUT most Dealers couldn't give a rats a$$ about you!! :evilmad:

Ken, I keep my cars in pristean condition and make a huge effort to keep them this way. I'd say most of the people that own cars like ours do the same.

I am working on this one and it got off to a rocky start....so I'll keep this short......some people do not feel the same way we do and a car is just a car. :evilmad: x10

Hey Wizard thanks. The service manager said she has done all she can. Meanwhile Chrysler customer service seams to be having trouble getting ahold of her....which is strange to me since I have been able to get her on the phone with no trouble by just dialing the number and asking for her.

Mr. Wizard..is there anything Kurtis can do as far as contacting someone at Chrysler to make some sort of complaint, if that's even necessary. I know that DC dealers lose their 5Star deal if there are too many unhappy customers, maybe if he knows who to contact at DC, and mentions this to the dealer, they could take the extra effort, not so much as threat, but more of a customer service issue. It sounds to me that this situation was mishandled from day one. I know if it was my dealership I would want a customer's car in and out asap, especially a car like an SRT since god forbid there's so much as a scratch on the car, the dealership will never hear the end of it.

Hi Michael,
First off the way a Dealer could lose their 5crap, I mean 5star is if they don't pay DC their yearly fee for the sign to hang out front!! :buttkick:

As for that Dealer ordering the trans, they need to explain to STAR how life works!! :bonker:

The service manager called and informed me that the star hotline had been contacted. Hopefully this helps things along.

update...

I've called the chrysler customer service number - 1-800-992-1997 - once a day to get an update on the progress. When I call the dealer they don't seem to know what's going on.

So anyway, the customer service person told me that the replacement transmission was approved yesterday. Now they have to locate one.

These guys are slower than snails.

I'm in the east bay... I guess I'll know where to bring my snake to if the transmission goes out. :D

Had a tranny let go on an old model... reason you cant get it from another dealer is because it's not in an unopened box... as Dodge requires, under warranty, that the tranny that is going to replace yours is brand spanking new... dealers have some in stock because they came out of another car... went through the same problem... and years back... they were on "back order" too... Good luck.

The transmissions that I located were brand new, same part number that Chuck posted, same part number that they are sending.

They now have an ETA of June 21st.

So a new transmission showed up friday afternoon. They had it all back together yesterday.

Finally have the car back.

Looks like the service advisor was right about the three weeks. I wonder how much longer it would have taken had I not called Dodge customer service every day ;)
