Amsoil recommends an automatic transmission fluid for the gen 1: AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle 100% Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid
I even called them to confirm

But for the gen 2: AMSOIL 75W-90 Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube

Has anyone used AMSOIL automatic transmission fluid in their gen 1?

The Gen 1s had different blocker rings in the synchros and require a Dexron III or better ATF fluid. The Gen 2s have carbon rings and can work well with GL4 multigrade synthetics for track or warm weather use.

Use a good 75w-90, just avoid GL5 rated fluids. I used anything I had on the shelf, 2qts redline GL4, 1qt BG synchroshift, 1qt auto trans fluid. Figured the auto trans fluid would add a little detergent capability to the mix and balance out the thicker synchroshift. A manual trans is very simple and will be fine as long as it’s got clean fluid and nothing that will eat internal parts like GL5

I went back to Dexron III, shifts much better now. If you get NGR, its not harmful just something you may hear.

A simple search reveals

Using Amsoil 75-90 and it says on the bottle Chrysler* MS-9070 replacement. 3000miles feels great.

On my 1999 GTS, the service manual says to use ATF +4 , so I use Amsoil multi vehicle full synthetic trans fluid that's there top of the line transmission fluid, any type of gear oil is not recommended and will make the transmission harder to shift in colder weather . Use the fluid your service manual recommends, then upgrade if you like but keep it the same type, so instead of Mopar ATF+4 I upgraded to Amsoils version of that type of fluid, owned a auto repair center for 40 years and rebuilt thousands of transmissions of all types, and taught Auto tech so your hearing this from a qualified technician.

What is the recommended fluid for a 2002? Some sites say 75-90 GL4 (e.g., Amsoil), others say use Mopar ATF+4.
