I just returned from a fun week at the Nevada Open Road Challenge. My car has 3:45 gears, so I shifted into sixth gear at about 160-165. I had no problems at all, but several of us chatted later about the durability of running high speeds in sixth gear for a long period (i.e. 90 miles). Will the small size of this overdrive gear result in transmission heat problems, or failure?

Obviously the high horsepower 200 mph guys must be running in sixth, even with 3:07 gears, but will our transmissions hold up well for some distance?

Thanks

Based on what the road racers are doing, if you are going to run gears you need a diff cooler. You're asking a lot of a stock rear end with no cooler.......

Your tranny would probably like one, too, but I don't think it's as imperative as your diff....
