twin turbo or supercharge?

I am trying to decide on twin turbos or supercharge. Would certainly appreciate opinions from those of you who have had to make the same considerations. The pros and cons of each and the relative stats would be greatly appreciated.

Generally speaking - supercharge for dragracing, turbocharge for road racing. What do you plan to do?

The sound of Doug Levin Superchargers is awesome and I've driven Gerald's 94 RT/10 (now owned by someone in CA???).

It'll definately stay a street car. I enjoy both but probably have more opportunity to drag than road race.

I can tell you that supercharging is sweet, owned one already. No maintanence and Doug is first class! Just get in the car and go! go, go!

Owned a turbo car before (Mustang SVO) loved it (so much so I almost bought one last week to play with)..... accept for the maintenance. To make a turbo live a happy life it takes a lot of work and TLC. Frequent oil changes, the patience enough to let the car idle for 2-5 minutes every time you turn it off so oil can flow through the bearings to cool them and the housing. If you don't do this the oil will cook in the bearing housing. You can buy a turbo timer that does this for you. Suburu seems to have pretty reliable turbo's, rally experience has helped them a lot!

Friends with supercharged cars/trucks seem to enjoy a much more "wash and wear" lifestyle, and get the same level of power for lots less dollars.

An interesting discussion, and one I'd like to learn much more about.

Personally, I'd supercharge! ...Way classier I think, and looks sexier, (but I've just never been a fan of turbos). Shouldn't really comment, as I've never driven a supercharged Viper (I WOULD LOVE TOO!) Easier to service too, on the turbo Viper I've seen, you have to remove all the exhaust manifolds, ETC, just to change the plugs!

A friend of mine raced to be there at his wifes sudden labour of the birth of their child, he returned later to his car, a proud Dad, only to find it wouldn't start...a melted turbo! Do our Vipers really want any more in under hood temps?

No one seems to have a good turbo or supercharger system that is reliable enough to run on a road course track. They may work for the street and the short runs of drag racing, but I have not seen one that will take the heat of running full throttle for 1/2 hour on a high speed road course, in the heat of summer. I think that it is going to be a while before the tuners get a handle on this kind of reliability.
