I was talking to a friend a couple days ago and he had a funny story, but I was wondering how true it is. He said a guy he knows lives in Washington, DC and has a Z06. The owner was doing some spirited driving at nighttime (140mph+) when he looked up and saw police lights in his rearview mirror. After getting over the initial shock of someone actually keeping up with him, he pulls over and a police officer comes up to the driver side window. The police car was a black Viper GTS, with black wheels, limo tint, blacked out headlights, etc. The officer says to the Z06 that the Viper is a Hen. Twin Turbo and "you werent going to get away". The Z06 guy nodded his head in agreement and handed over his license. Anyone heard of this TT cop car?

If he was doing 140mph he wouldn't have just handed over his licence after some small talk. He would have been arrested on the spot.

I think he was arrested. The guy said the Z06 person "handed over his license" like he knew he wasnt going to be driving again for a long time. Not just a "ok, officer, here's my license, go run it and my insurance"

Blacked out windows and headlights aren't legal in DC. I'm not saying that your friend is full of [******] but I don't believe it. Maybe batman pulled him over.

LOL that was my 1st thought, Batman must have had a career change. I do know in GA blacked out windows are illegal, but police cars can have them. Not sure if its the same way in DC or not. Might just be a Z06 guy trying to cover up he got busted by a Crown Vic and trying to save some face by saying it was a twin turbo instead.

I think this story will be on snopes.com soon....

Sounds like the black lambo car that ran from Miami to NYC with the driver wearing night vision goggles.

Soup'd up cop cars. That's all we need. It's a lot better to run people over at 150mph than it is at 100 just to catch some dumb kid doing some spirited driving or carrying a $5 bag of ***.

I agree. I like how some states have outlawed police chases in excess of over 100mph unless the person fleeing is know to have just participated in a felony. A couple years back, a girl (I think 17 yrs old) was killed in GA when a cop "pitted" her after chasing her to give her a speeding ticket. She was doing like 80 in a 55. She got scared about getting a ticket and didnt pull over. She ended up dying and her friend who was shotgun was severly injured.

I used to see a souped up camaro, complete with streamlined roof lights and all, near Rt 2 in Boston in 1998.

Here in Chicago and the expressways The state police all have Camaros and mustangs and a few communities do have a Vette they use mostly for promotional dates but it does do speed traps as well.

In Hawaii, they have modified police cars. Most of them are mustangs and camaros. Most of these cars are the officers personal cars that they use and get some type of subsidy for. With that being said, I don't think a regular "cop" would own and drive a Viper let alone a TT Viper. Last time I check cops did not make that sorta of money. But who knows...maybe DC pays 100k salary... :smirk:

IF it's for real, it is possible that the VIPER was confiscated in a drug bust or something similar. Then it stays at the police station until a traffic cop checks it out for the day.

Never-the-less, I have my doubts that any municipality would insure such a car.

I doubt any municipality insures any cop cars - what insurance company is going to provide coverage to a cop car, given the circumstances it is exposed to?

I'm betting there are insurance companies that have contracts with Law Enforcement Agencies.

Where there is a market there is a product. And the product in this case is probably provided by a relative of a high ranking public official.

I seriously doubt this. Like Mark said I've never even heard of a Viper Po' car in DC let alone a twin turbo one. And I really don't think they would go through the trouble of TT a Viper if they did get one. I have seen Viper Po' cars before and none were used to catch speeders. They were all used in promotional gimics and the like. Think the dude is pulling your leg.
