Drove the car last night, parked in garage. Decided to take the bike to work today instead. Come home from work gonna take the Viper out for a joyride, left front tire is completely flat. ahh no sweat, jacked up the car, pulled the tire off. Figured i picked up a nail or something. inspecting the tire, looks like a piece of razor blade is sticking out of the tire on the shoulder (inside edge, so its not vandalism) its leaking good, pull out the piece and yep, its got a hell of a leak.

of course it had to be right on the shoulder of the tire, so its not repairable. one trip to tirerack.com and i should have my new tire by friday. I was hoping when it came time for new tires, i could buy a full set and go with something different. guess i'm sticking with Pilot Sport PS2s

just needed to vent... ugh.

I feel your pain. I too like to get full sets and hate to break things up with one new tire. Just run the rest till they are done and replace all 4 like you wanted. Then you'll have this newer one as a good backup. :)

fair point. I was gonna take the one with a hole in it, patch it anyways and throw it in the attic for a "just encase **** breaks tire" I guess the better news was that there is still a lot of tread left on the currents ones so this new one will not be too different in tread depth.

Take the old tire, put a glass sheet on it, and you have a nice coffee table. :D

As for the tire, do stick with PS2s. They are great tires! And dont worry about the mismatched one. You will have them burnt off before you can say I just paid the Visa for the last tire! :rolaugh:

Sorry to hear about the tire though...that *****!

Sorry that happened, but you're doing the right thing by not trying to fix that area.

FWIW, I used to do the same thing with tires that were almost shot (put 'em in the attic for "just in case") but I never ever used them. I realize now that unless I'm close to the attic with a flat on the Viper and its my only getaway car as I'm facing a herd of brain-eating zombies.....would I ever put a suspect tire on the Viper! Its good in theory, but really, if something like this happens again, would you use the patched tire? If you have space, you lose nothing by keeping it, but if it stinks up the attic and your wife/GF bugs you about it, pitch it, you'll likely never use it.

i totally agree with you, but i got room in the attic, no one will mind i'm sure it will never make its way back on the car, but I'm gonna follow Murphys Law and hope that if I keep it, I'll never need it. LOL

I'm happy to read it was only a tire!

Usually a thread title like this one has a story about a totaled snake... especially this time of the year!

I've never used tirerack.com, do they really save you that much time/money. Rather then going down to the tireshop and getting it done that day? That is, any tire shop but NTB, there a bunch of snakes at my local NTB.... No pun, btw.

Of course, when I had to get rear tires on my '95, no one had them in stock. It did take 24hrs to complete that task. Which was no biggie. thx

Another tire story:

I bought new PS2s all around awhile back. two weeks later I picked up a 4" iron spike in a rear tire. It clunked on the inside of the rim so bad I thought I busted a U-joint on the halfshaft!! I slowly drove it home - clunk, clunk, clunk all the way at low speed, with fingers crossed. Needless to say I was pi$$ed that a brand new $500 tire was damaged. Thankfully, the spike went right through the center of the tread and a hotpatch on the inside fixed it. That was 15k mi. back...

Good thing I only drive Miss Daisy and my old viper never ever ever goes over the posted speed limit.

Cheers
