On this subject,
I have a question reguarding the points where the jack stands can be placed. It is clear to me where the jacking points are, but to put the car on jack stands, is anywhere on the frame OK? I remember some posts talking about exercising extreme care when letting down the car on the jack stands, like using a rag so as not to scrape up the frame. I just don't see how you can put the stands under the jacking points while using the jack. Anyone care to expand my mind? Thanks,

Mike

If you were going to use two at the same time then you would use them to lift the back of the Viper first. But then to lift the front you would still need to lift each side.

No No No, you misunderstand me!

I would still use jackstands.

The purpose of 2 jacks is that I currently use 2 scissor jacks at once and that is very convenient. So why not 2 floor jacks?

Of course, with this ultra low clearance, it may be possible to go after the front crossmember directly.

But boy do those jacks look awesome!

The jacks look good. I did a little measuring today. According to the web page, the long reach low profile jack (DK20Q) is under 4-inches for the first 16-1/2 inches. Unfortunately, it is 21 inches from the lower front spoiler to the frame cross member. My 2001 GTS (stock suspension) has 4 inches clearance from the ground to the bottom of that spoiler. So it doesn't look like it's going to be possible to jack on the front cross member without running the car up on boards or scraping the bottom of the front spoiler with the jack.

Their under 4" I think is misleading. If you look carefully at the jack, I think the number is more like the 3.1.

The real question is what is the slope of the rear half since my spoiler measures 3 3/4.

At any rate, I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

And would that be sweet to be able to roll a jack under the front crossmember directly!!!!!!!!

You might be able to put a sheet of Teflon on the sloping part of the jack so it could be "wedged" under the air dam if you only need 1/4 to 1/2 extra clearance to get the front crossmember.

You can get the clearance you want by driving onto two 2x12x12's. It works for me and is an inexpensive and simple solution.

I have the DK20Q. I use the jack points next to the side sills. It barely clears the side sills on a stock height GTS. If you decide to use the frame as a lift point then you'll have to use the 2X12X12 boards to raise the car. I also use two jacks to raise the car. The other one is a standard floor jack that I've had for years. Once I raise one side, the old jack fits under the other side with no problem.

Couple things to be aware of.
1.Get the rubber saddle pad that is made for the DK20. Nylon pads tend to be slippery.
2.The valving control to lower the jack isn't quite as precise as my old floor jack. Tends to lower the car too fast if you're not careful.
3.If you lower your suspension, you'll definately need the 2X12X12's

Other then that, its well worth getting.

I'm considering it. However, does anyone have a recommendation for a jack to be used on a Viper which has been -lowered- 0.5 - 1.0 inches? I'm not sure there's even 3.1" of clearance left after such an operation...

Whoa... Using two jacks at the same time? Double-jacking can be very dangerous... If you do use two scissors jacks at the same time to lift either the front end or rear end of the car, make sure that they are oriented 90 degrees (or perpendicular) to each other when you are using them together. Even then, they are very poor with respect to taking side loads (for instance when you're working on the car shoving against a tire or pushing against the car). I would have similar reservations about using floor jacks. At the very least, make sure that you firmly apply the parking brake and carefully chock the wheels.

I had the DK20 first, but it't to high for the Viper, the I bought the DK13HLQ that one worked fine until I put Eibachs on the Viper... So now do I always have to use boards to raise the car.
Just for your information...they are way cheaper in Europe... :)

I saw the "boys from AZ" at Viperdays (Thunderhill) using the DK13HLQ on a lowered (full race) GTS w/ sidepipes and splitters. It went under the car w/ a *little* room to spare.
I bought one of the low profile jacks from Harbor Freight (I think) - it's the one that weighs 100lbs, and is supposed to be 3.75 inches. It kinda fits under the sidesill on my 1" lowered 94, but you cannot get it far enough under the sill to reach the jacking point without driving up on 2x12's. The Ultimate Garage jack is low (under 4" for the 1st 16" of reach), and that *should* be fine for your car. Wish I would have bought it instead of the one I bought. Now I have 2 floor jacks, neither of which fits under my car without first driving it up on 2x12's.
