Is there any Differentials or Spools suitable for Dragracing that will fit the Dana 44?
Broke mine last weekend.... I have another stock one as replacement, but would like to purpose build a Dragracing rear end.

Yeah, but I would prefer staying with the independent suspension rear end. The first mod to increase the 1/4 mile will be to convert to an automatic trans, then will also probably ther rear end like my 60-footers better...

I know it's been said before, but don't overlook the Ford 9"
rear end. You can't beat the price(they're cheap), you can
have them cut to any length(you can weld brackets, or anything
else, to the case without fear), choice of gears, extreme duty
center sections(including aluminum) with gears can be swapped out in short order at the track. Check Viper wheel base dimensions - you might get lucky and find a match production size. It's the choice for most dragsters, but research it and
talk to someone that's done it (Sir Hiss), or one of the Ford 9"
suppliers.

If you were to switch to an auto trans and about a 3500 RPM convertor, the dana 44 would probably live a long happy life. Stick shifts (and trans brakes) are extremely ******* diffs.

I can't say if they have anything available,
but you could check with Mark Williams at http://markwilliams.com

I was told that they have a Ford 9 inch centersection conversion for Vette's,
so they may have something available for Vipers (since both use Dana 44's).

Rich, I was going to follow up with a similar post, but I
got busy. Some of the 9" specialty companies(Currie-comes to mind-that's all they do), can set you up with any variety of
9" , including an independent version(as in Rich's post).
It's worth looking into. These companies provide a smorgasbord
of products for rear-end setups. They can provide a rear-end
that cannot be broken, period.
At least one Viper performance shop offers a Dana 60 with CV
joints(I can't remember where I saw it). In the Dana 60, the
older 'Powr-Lok'(late 60's) differential is the strongest(as compared to newer Traction-Lok.

Rick, I've already checked with the MW people and they do not have anything in their portfolio of products that will solve my problem...
I know that there is a Quaife diff available, but I would prefer building it with a spool.

Make an unbreakable something and the next weakest thing breaks. Halfshafts or rears are pretty easy to replace. I'd keep it there.

What Pauls said is absolutely right, but if the broken spider
gears, are a continual problem, you might check into the
Quaife differential. They advertise that they provide
a lifetime warranty, and besides being rated for drag duty,
they also seem to be road track friendly. I have seen their
ads somewhere in the past on VCA - but you can find them on
the net (they are more expensive, but maybe the warranty would
save you in the long run). They work by using a odd gear
set-up, instead of clutches or friction plates, but it looks
like a stronger alternative.

We have the Quaife diff in the GT40 and it works well, though they are quite expensive compared to a spool. A spool is about 300-500usd and a Quaife is about 2500usd...
I'll take contact with Tom at Toms Differentials and se if he can manufacture a spool och maybe build a stronger differential...

Regarding Pauls comment, I do agree, I think that the best way to go is to just swap the 6-sp tranny for a automatic.
