This was in the February 2008 Issue of Robb Reports - Car of the Year. Painful read....

What's a Robb Report? Blah blah 'plastic', blah blah 'interior', blah blah 'traction control'. Same old garbage from the same old boring reviewers.

I like the top comment... As for the review itself, I don't think he realizes the Viper's target audience. I like the interior, could be better, but that's not what I bought it.. And I sure as hell don't want traction control.

What V-8's have over 600hp? Any other than the ZR-1(which has a S/C)? I've heard that the Viper engine was capable of a lot higher(like 800hp) but couldn't due to emissions. Regardless, people get the V-10 because it's got the old, muscle car inefficiency sound.

That fellow has test-driven one too many mini-vans.

Doesn't sound like he'd fall into the mainstream foo-foo automatic corvette owner, either.

He ought to stick to his Buick.

I love "plastic interior" comments. I wish they'd name the cars that don't have plastic interiors so I could have something to compare it to.

These sad little men; I guess they got over stimulated during their Prius test. There are so many of these types in the auto press that harbor this tiresome anti-american car bias. Reviews that don't bother to point out anything positive are just lame. So many imports that people just fall over themselves praising are gimmicky overhyped junk. There are precious few cars in the Viper's class that can measure up to its abilities and potential. For me the viper is about connecting with my inner beast; not my nurturing lets talk about relationships side. It is a derivative driver's car, not to be handled by the pinky shifting pencil neck. Partial rant over...

VIPER you either get it or you don't
Reviewer makes some valid points if you are of the view that cars are transportation
or that cars of this ilk must have all the electronic bells and whistles
When people can't understand, it's really not worth wasting the effort to explain or defend
the product, they are incapable of experiencing what the Viper is about.
God bless Dodge for understanding OUR definition of performance!!!!
Keep up the great work:2tu:

it looks like they are labeling the 08 viper car of the year, but then on the same page saying how horrible the entire car is?

"inadequate brakes" huh? This thing will stop with or better than the F430 or the magic Z-oh6, WITHOUT ABS!!:omg:
"inexplicable lack of traction control, stability control" Do they honestly think it was some sort of a cost cutting measure to leave these electro-nannies off?
"Plastic interior", true, but ALL cars have plastic interiors untill you get into stratospheric prices. The plastics used are certainly no worse than in a 'vette. And the leather is nicer, so there.:crazy2:
"side pipes...are now concealed." Huh? There just as exposed as a GenI ever was, and more so than the GenII. *** are these morons smoking?!?!:dunno:

Robb Report is high end magazine...when I'm at the book store and want to feel very poor I read it...$5,000,000 boats...$300,000 watches. Mansion, butlers, Rolls Royce's...the magazine is geared to peaople worth well over $50 million.
If I had that coin, I would buy a dozen viper, buy 40 acres build a race track on it and have everyone over for GTG and see how long it takes to till something breaks!!!

It is a high gloss magazine with cheap editorials. Lots of ads. Never found anything interesting so quit buying them a long time ago.

You definitely have to consider the source here. Other than Consumer Reports I cannot imagine a magazine that targets a more different demographic. This is not a knock on the Robb Report, just stating facts. Robb report targets the posh, refined luxury demographic. The Viper does pretty much the complete opposite by catering to an old-school, low frills Cobra-era formula of performance, namely, big engine, strong chassis and suspension and big brakes. And not much else.

Long live the king.

It's like people who want their car to handle like a true sports car and then complain that the ride is too harsh. If you want a burled wood dash and a car that can drive itself, buy a luxury car. You never wanted a Viper to begin with.

He probably got his ass kicked by a Viper while driving his $130,000 911 Porsche Turbo.

I'd be glad if a guy came to pick up my daughter in a viper. Means he will be careful driving because he wouldn't want to damage his car. Also means he won't go "parking" to try to make out with her. Gotta love that viper interior design. hehe

They didn't name the Viper the car of the year. The magazine was dedicated to high-end performance cars (Robb Report is all about luxury items)... and the car of the year was the Audi R8.

Number 2 was the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
Number 3 was the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet
The Lambo LP640 Roadster took Number 9
The Viper was dead last at Number 14.

well, the placement of that label in the top left hand corner and on the same page as the viper, makes things more than a little confusing. maybe its clearer if you are looking at the whole magazine and not just a single page.

One inexplicable thing I have seen over & over in these types of reviews & comparisons is the criticism of the transmission. It is a Tremec T56, the exact same tranny as the applauded Z-06 uses. I have seen more than one idiotic comparison applauding the Vette tranny and critisizing the Viper tranny. Just goes to show how biased or ignorant they can be.

To me, many of these types of reviews belong in the same bucket as campaign promises.

I would like to see what their review would be if they actually drove a Cobra.

Quality interiors from the cheapest Japanese cars? They're plastic too.

Inadequate braking? Compared to what? Never bought a Robb report and never will. I have looked through them on the racks and won't even bother doing that after this trash.

My daughter is going on 16 and she says" I dont need a boy with a Viper...MY daddy has 2" :lmao:

At least if a boy showed up to our door we would have something in common right of the bat. and he would think im cool

My problem will be boys wanting to come over and see my daughter and asking her.."do you think your dad would let us take one of the Vipers out" :nono::nono::nono::nono::nono::nono:

I like how he said that the engine was 'better suited for", and came from a dodge Ram, which is completly false. When a reviewer makes false statements like that, his credibility is lost and i dont even bother finish the article. But im sure everyone who read this outside of the viper commnuity now thinks it has a Ram engine.

"If a young man comes to pick up your daughter in this car, shoot him"

Shoot him?

He should be shaking my hand that I can afford a car like that to take his daughter out in. Ingrate.
