I'm considering getting one of these units but I have a few questions:

1) How effective it is real life? I know it scans for highway patrol and gives a 3 mile warning, but does it do anything for speed traps run by local cops?

2) Do you have to constantly keeping track of the conversations it picks up or can the unit provide enough warning functioning autonomously?

3) Where did you mount your mobile antenna? Did you have to drill or modify the car?

Thanks for any info!

very effective on my road trips, i dont use it daily(some times too much info. is bad) has saved my @$$ when the V1 did not go off. Most modern police units are now on digital radio so the scanner will not allow you to monitor the conversation. The CB monitor is good on the road also. What the device does it pick up on the signal that goes from the car radio to the officers belt radio, this happens every time the car gets a message. regardless of if the message is for this car or not, these radios are almost always on and almost always getting some kind of message except in pretty unpopulated areas. pretty incredible technology used in conjunction w/ a V1 you are quite stealth. the antanea is suction cup mount and i stick it to a window(rear), you can prob. mount a permanent one if you like.

Where's a good place to buy one of these cheap?

Can someone elaborate further on the use/operation of this device, and their experiences with it?

I had one... the best place to pick one up is on Ebay. In a big city, you will probably want to turn the sensitivity really far down. I was picking up EVERYTHING. In Atlanta, you can rest assured that there is a cop within a 3 mile radius. However, he isn't necessarily in a position to "see" you. So, I ended up selling it and just using my V1.

It did have a few nice features, such as traffic safety alerts as well as weather warnings. I guess it all depends on how much time you spend in your car, and how fast you go :) Personally, I think the V1 is sufficient, but to each his own!

the V1 is plenty around town i only add the beartracker on roadtrips, the antanae sticks w/ suction cups inside the car, although an external can be added. i set it up to scan the HP/police and CB. the CB scan has saved my rear as many times as the other alert.
