VEC 1 Tuning Question

Messin' with the VEC 1 today and think I have it set right. Used the instructions and the earlier posts by PRVT JET and others to find that my car is happiest at +10 on the low and -12 on the high.

Though judging the HP increase is pretty impossible, but the car seems really crisp and strong at these settings.

QUESTION: When I had the settings at 0/0, the A/F lights bounced all around continuously. Now that I have it set this way, the A/F is dead-red in the lean zone (and stays there) when I'm cruising at constant speed. IS THIS RIGHT? (doesn't seem so...). It bounces around unless you're at a steady speed - which is predictable I think.

Also, I threw code (don't know which one...just saw that happy happy Service Engine Soon light on) just before I tuned the VEC 1. Could there be any relationship that I need to be concerned about?

Ideas welcome.

What's up drumrboy? The light should go back and fourth. Try going back to 0/0 and reset the cars pcm also. Than just do the last part of the instructions to set the vec1 without the test drive. call me if you have questions 630-400-0568. we might be going to greatlakes drags on tues night, it would be perfect to tune at the track.

I thought so. I just went out again and started at 0/0 doing the rev thing after each 2 clicks until I got to +12 and -14.

Seems to run well but the lean light still stays on almost continuously when cruising on the highway. I don't know if this is no-load lean condition is gonna make me run hot or not. Don't wannna burn anything thin and circular!

I'm supposed to be out of town on Tuesday but if it falls through (decent chance) I'd like to head up there with the gang on Tuesday (the 20th right?).

I'll call you.

Did you notice any increase in temperatures more than usually at a constant speed?

Red means it too lean, change the setting before doing any more running. If the light is moving a round the computer is in closed loop, and this is the correct operation. If the light is fixed at one end or the other something is wrong. the lights should move between the yellow and blue most of the time. Hard decel red light and hard accel blue light. If you can set the control for only the fisrt blue light on hard accel you got it.. But what really counts is how it feels. Call Roe Racing if you need help. You can beat their support.

Thanks for the input. The lights do go to blue when I nail it, and if I change speed while cruising the LED's dip into the yellows and blues. It does stay red when at constant speed though, so I'm taking it that this ain't right.

Is disconnecting the battery the simplest way to start over or is there a reset on the PCM?

Tom at fields can reset the pcm for you with the plug in tool. I thought if you have a cam in your car the low setting should be positive? Try setting the low to +2/+4. call me if you can make the track tomorrow.

DrumrBoy--Try going to low -20 and high +8 settings. This is where I ran mine. The Red light means you are running too lean, not good. If you still have problem Monday call Roe racing and they will help you troubleshoot the Vec1

Yes. Don't know exactly how  , but one of the things I tried was dramatically adjusting the settings (like going to +20 on the LOW). This dumped massive amounts of fuel and made it run pretty poorly....only did it for 5 min on the open road and changed the plugs and oil afterwards :p ....but it seemed to have "woken up" the unit. Works great now at +6 low and -12 high.

I was ready to start the voodoo incantations but it was unnecessary.
