I put the VEC2 on my GTSR last night and the reader gives me a green light. I programmed a card and when inserted the 3rd light just blinks orange. (sometimes 6 times, sometimes 3 times) I tested the card on my computer and the information is on it. So the car basically doesn't run. It will start but I don't think it has any type of program as it back fires, dies, etc... Is the reader bad? Did I miss something? Is there a way to test just the reader to see if it will read the card? I am very disappointed in the Troubleshooting section of the installation guide as there basically isn't one.

Didn't you get some base cards with the unit? You should be able to use one of them until you figure out what the problem is with the one you programmed.

No, the problem is that the reader won't read them. When I put in the card the 3rd light over just flashes. Which indicates an error. But that is where the manual stops. It says "if the 3rd light flashes there is an error" whoever wrote that is an einstien.

Been there, it's a simple solution. On the main screen you need to put in two codes. You VEC2 is locked and will not accept a card unless it's coded. You need to enter in the box serial nr and box encription code which came with the VEC2. I believe it's written on the box.

I thought I did that...do you put it in on the left hand side of the software writer? If so then do you set it to lock after download? What / where do you do that? I have the codes but could not find where or how to put them in. I thought thought that may be the problem but could find no documentation...Thanks a lot, we may make the dyno day after all...

Kory,
You need to go to the "fuel" section of the "General information page" then select "Fuel options" where on that page you will find the locking and unlocking features of the program. Also you will find the "encryption code" security feature that is preventing you from downloading your program to the car. Hope that helps.

Kory,

The "Box encryption code" stays on the left side. I don't see what John is talking about, do you?

This box is asking for a 10 digit code. They give you a BC code and a serial number. Where does the serial number go?

I did not think you needed a BC code unless the code was locked?

I don't know what it is you are not seeing. Under the box serial nr enter in the code that begins BC. Under the box encryption code enter the 10 digit code. Mine starts with FB. Mine is set under the code to unlock after upload.

OOPS....one other little tidbit. There are two versions of the VEC2 software now, S104 and S106. It's the S106 version I'm referring to and so the other posts about the "box serial nos." in addition to the "encryption codes" are referring to the S104 software. Its format and where these codes are found are slightly different. The numbers for the S104 software are entered on the opening page. Hope that helps.

Kory,

Keep us posted. Did you get a chance to try it today? I am curious if your VEC2 is bad, or if the software needed configuration.

When I open the VEC2 program it opens to the "General" page. That is the page with the two boxes. "Open" the "Stock" program from the CD, then, "Find Reader". The next step is to "Write Card", just make sure you have the "box serial nr" and "box encryption code" entered. Take the card out and turn the key on in the car, insert the card, mine loads in about a second.

I apologize if you were already following the same procedure. I thought mine worked without the code also. There is one thing i forgot, make sure you go to preferences and select the correct configuration for your car. In addition, if you use anything but the "Stock" program, make sure you select the program that utilizes the correct MAP, OEM of VEC internal.

Hi Kory,

Sorry we weren't able to hook up. I called at about 8:30 this morning (Sunday) and you called back later in the day. But my cell phone didn't ring and gave me a message indicator about 2 hours later (sometimes I think about switching from Sprint).

Anyway, I guess you didn't get a chance to try it out at the dyno day today. From the sounds of it, between your message and this post, you're writing a program to a card, but not specifying the box serial number and code. The VEC2 will not read a card which is not coded for it, as we ship them out locked.

With the VEC2 software open, click on "find reader". If it says "card reader ok", then proceed to reading a card or opening a sample program from the CD. The samples we saved to disc are saved as "Unlocked", encryption code "0000000000", as shown in the data protection field on the left. Before you write that program to the card for your VEC2, you have to specify the box number (BC30XXX) in the "box serial number" field and encryption code in the field below it. Then click on "write card". The display should say "coded card write ok". Power up the VEC2 by turning the key on and slide the card with the gold chip up, toward the LED's. It should read the card and blink the last green. If it's not doing anything, you may not be pushing the card in until it stops (or the card is dirty).

Regarding the error light, there's only one error that makes it blink when a card is put in. The card being inserted is not coded for the box (blank, wrong code, or bad).

Though we have not had any reader problems, it is possible there could be a problem with it. However, it's unlikely.

Sorry if the instructions were not clear enough on this proceedure. We'll make changes based on your input. It can be difficult to write software instructions after spending a year and a half creating and working with the program every day.

Regards,
Sean

I thought that the newest version was S105, not S106. Can anybody confirm? Sean? Is it necessary to upgrade the box each time there is an update?
