I wonder why the power loss from crank to rwhp was

Gen 1: 7.5%

Gen 2: 8.9%

Gen 3: 13%

why so much more power train loss in later models?

There might be more loss, possible, but i think it was more that Dodge underrated them.
Even now, we are seeing better stock 2008 rwhp #'s, then we thought with a 12% loss.

I think that you have to remember that the SRT10's were origionally rated at 500 crank HP by dodge.

Aswell Gen2's are actualt every bit of 475 crank from the factory..

.35 For the GTS...THANKS

I find it strange that with most models of vehicles the convertable is heavier than the coupe. The RT/10 is lighter than the GTS. Anyone know why?

rear glass of the rt10 is plexi glass...as well the hatch bach on the rt10 is very low/small...then theirs a lot less goin on the rt10 rear as well compared to the gts wing...

While Imtalking about this Ill give some more useful info...

RT10=3380 pounds
GTS=3440 pounds

RT10=remove jack/spare=3350 pounds
GTS=remove jack spare=3410 pounds

RT10=remove jack/ spare plus hard top=3320 pounds
GTS=Jack/spare=3410

RT10=remove jack/spare/hardtop/rear window ( buttons on and off in a minute)=3315 pounds

The point is that at the drag strip an RT10 can EASILY be 90-100 pounds less than a GTS

great info,curious what was the top speed for the z06?

You should really go read through the hole thing as it was an AWESOME review and my personal favorite " as well as many other vert owners favorite Iwould presume)

The SRT10 vert ran a 12.3 at 116 1/4 mile and finished the road course in 119.5 seconds..Top speed 194.8 mph

The C6Z06 ran a 12.2 at 118 1/4 mile and finished the road course in 19.5 seconds..Top speed 197.0 mph

At the end of the review the commeneded the SRT10 vert saying of all the cars their that it was the funnest/easiest to get good times in..

Top speed is irrelevant. I bet you cannot find 5 people in this forum that have taken their Vipers to top speed w/ the 3:07 gears. I used to do it in my Vette back in 89, very early on Sunday mornings on open highway...it took every bit of 2 miles to hit it and then that was only 158 mph. Trying to get to 190+ mph anywhere, including a track is almost impossible, and borderline crazy!

Yea I agree....I had a 2007 auto C5 that can hit around 170 mph dead stock. I took it up to about 165 mph in 1.5 miles and it was INSANELT scary..At 160 everything gets blurry..

In the SRT10 Ive done 155 mph blast in the SRT10...It was much faster than the C5..Defiently hit it in less than a mile..

I beleave the stock C5 coupes get from 0-150 mph in 33 seconds while the SRT10verts hit 150 mph in 20 seconds...So it was much faster indeed.

I got my car in TN and drove it back so I was able to hit 170mph out there in gods country. It felt stable and did NOT take long to get there!! :2tu:

The next thing he probably asked was "Where is the seat warmer,traction control button, and cup holder?". I feel I can say that with a pretty straight face because I came from a Vette to a Viper. You can't really call me a a former Vette owner because I have 2 still, but I can tell you one thing, there is no comparison on build quality between the two. The Viper is built better hands down. And just the fact that knowing I can drive my Viper at the track all day versus just wondering if my Vette would make it home from it's daily drive says it all. Start your Viper up and it roars to life, I start my Vette up and the lifters rattle for what seem like miles of warm-up driving. And as you might expect, the only thing stopping me from getting my next Viper is selling the two Vettes, which are now up for sale.

During the Nevada Open Road Challenge, I cruised my 2004 SRT-10 at 165 mph + for about 50 miles. It was very, very stable - felt like some cars do at 80 mph.
