Over the past couple of weeks, I have been PM'd by a few people asking how my exhaust set up now sounds. As many of you know, I ended up getting back a DLM car that dyno'd at 883 RWHP without cats. Unfortunately, the car sounded like a dragster -- it sounded good, but it was waaaaaaaaay too loud! Ultimately, I decided to experiment and here is what was done. The car has Bellanger Headers, head & cam and Corsa exhaust. I took the car to West Coast Viper and they placed Moroso Mufflers up were the cats were, then pulled the Corsa side exhaust and placed Ultraflows in there, and then cut out the corsa rears and welded in Spintechs. The result is an 860 RWHP or so car that sounds tough and is relatively quiet. To me, it sounds bad ass at idle, and under throttle sounds more like a V8 than a V10, which I and many others prefer.

Here's a short clip of the car right after I had started it up. Comments are welcomed, good or bad.

Manny --

Now you'll be invited to the neighborhood barbecues again! They did a good job taming it for you without eliminating any of the nastiness. Enjoy!

Sorry, It sounded MUCH better when it was delivered on the trailer (video)...no cats...= more power, AND it does NOT sound like a V8..and never will with the un even firing of the v10

Actually when you rev it it sounds more like an exotic...less throaty and less mean

But hey if you are happy that is all that matters...

Very strange idle. It lopes but very quickly. My stock '96 cammed car lopes much slower, like an old muscle car. I wish I had your power though. I'm way down here at 840

Everybody has an opinion. I never said I didn't like the way it sounded before. I loved how it sounded. It was just too loud and I was violating the sound ordinance here in San Diego (it was that loud.) A few Viper owners who heard it would agree. Randy, who works as an auto tech, told me I should be hung for wanting to add mufflers to the car and that it SHOULD sound loud. He helped me pull my fried cats. When we fired it up, he laughed out loud (which I didn't hear but could see) and then plugged his ears, told me to turn off the car, and then said, "OK, OK... you are right -- it does need more mufflers!" Yellow Fever heard it at my house and the look on his face was as if he had seen a ghost. I think he was in shock as to how loud it was.

ANyway, if it sounds more like an exotic, that is cool with me. I have Borla and high flow cats on my RT/10, so I can enjoy both sides of the sound barrier.

As a kid who wants a 1000 hp Viper, and it's all i ever talk about, that was as Wayne's World would say, schwing! Your car sounds sweet. I like the whooshing effect. Nice ride.

The sound of the S/C by itself is intoxicating. Where ever you go you'll steal the show, even before you pop the hood. A stock viper has serious gawk, but after the S/C , unreal!....

Wuss, I liked the old setup better :D

How do you know? Go stick your ear inside the tail pipe of your car. Maybe it will be as loud as mine was then. :2tu:

Mike, where are the videos of you and your car? I thought we would see some serious siht by now!

Today it was 99 degrees in town and the car ran nice and cool, surprisingly, never going over 200 degrees, even with a little boost here and there.
